By blaming the video, and continuing to make that claim, they caused more demonstrations and riots to occur around the world, with the possibility of further injuries and loss of life. It wasn't just a little white lie. Their lie created the potential of more physical harm being done to American citizens all around the globe.

The first I recall hearing about ‘the video’ was from tweets sent by the State Department’s Libyan Embassy on 9/11 before the attack.
