A reminder about the last plant-infested, CNN-run town hall debate
By Michelle Malkin October 15, 2012 12:38 PM CNNs Candy Crowley will be moderating tomorrow nights second presidential debate. It will be a 90-minute town hall forum at Hofstra University on Long Island, east of New York City. Both the Obama and Romney campaigns signed a memorandum of understanding about how the debate will be run. But Crowley is already making noises that she plans to circumvent the agreed-upon rules and take control: In a rare example of political unity, both the Romney and Obama campaigns have expressed concern to the Commission on Presidential Debates about how the moderator of this Tuesdays town hall has publicly described her role, TIME has learned. While an early-October memorandum of understanding between the Obama and Romney campaigns suggests that CNNs Candy Crowley would play a limited role in the Tuesday-night session, Crowley, who is not a party to that agreement, has done a series of interviews on her network in which she has suggested that she will assume a broader set of responsibilities. As Crowley put it last week, Once the table is kind of set by the town-hall questioner, there is then time for me to say, Hey, wait a second, what about X, Y, Z? Do you remember what happened the last time CNN was in charge of a high-stakes town hall style campaign debate?

Please let one Freeper secretly infiltrate with a face question and ask “President Obama, why does your wedding ring have the Muslim prayer to Allah and why did you wear it before your marriage?”

I still remember the "pony tail guy" during one of the town halls when Clinton was running.
You're right it's way to easy for Axel-grease and the rest of the Chicago gang to stack the deck on this one, especially after "the Won" stunk up the joint with his performance in the last debate.
You're right, and that's alarming. But if you follow Michelle Malkin's links through to her 2007 article, she writes about a town hall debate in which many of CNN's "regular voters" were actually handpicked leftwing activists.
During the V.P. debate it almost seemed as if Ryan was debating against both the moderator and Crazy Uncle Joe. This is why the libs went after Lerher in the first debate. They felt he wasn't "tough enough on Romney". He was doing the job the way it was supposed to be done. Set out the question, and let the candidates go back and forth.
IMHO that debate accurately showed each side. 0boober just came away looking like the empty suit he is and the left couldn't stand it.
In that sense it IS the questions they ask, if those questions are being presented to the public as those of truly undecided voters, when they are really left-of-center questions.
One would expect half the questions to come from the Left and half from the Right, but they all come from the Left. The home viewer is left to wonder if they are "outside the mainstream" and begin to doubt themselves and their candidate choice.
That's the purpose of stacking the townhall in such a way.

That's just the debate. Agreeing to the moderators they have is like doing that after bathing in chum.
Yeah, I do. Michelle has pix. Four Kerry/Edwards activists pretending to be "concerned, undecided voters". This one will be no different. BTT
Yes....and the docile GOP gamely goes along with the plan, election season after election season.
Supposedly Gallup does pick the questioners but who knows. Here’s an earlier thread on the process:

Here’s the process explained in a Business Insider article:

Crowley states she will meet with the questioners and discuss their questions, so she will know the questions in advance and can call on whom she likes to.
And the deck was stacked two weeks ago with PBS's Mark Lehrer designated as the 'moderator' ... and yet Mr. Romney left the stacked venue with Mr. Obama's head on a pike. And as a consequence, the shape of the election has been dramatically changed (for the better).
You and I don't like the fact that these debates are Always skewed against the Republicans. They are owned by the communist and atheistic media in this Country, and until that is changed, the Republicans have no choice but to wade into these box canyons and do their best to defeat the ambush and destroy the enemy. It is a tall order, but at least the Republicans usually have logic on their side, and a superior position to espouse than the advocates of communism.
And we can always pray. Nearly 2800 years ago King Jehoshaphat saw the defeat of a large army of his enemies, while he was armed only with a marching band and prayers. Prayer is good and prayer is a gift. We should use it.
Thanks for those threads...reading now.
I actually think Romney can handle them. I don’t think they can throw him off his game and if they get plumb ridiculous it will come off as bad as Biden did.
The audience is hand picked, most likely from Obama staffers. They'll be presented as “simple, honest folk.” Many will claim to be “life long Republicans” and will state that they are voting Democrat for the first time.
That's why debates managed by the main stream media are a lot like clinical psycodramas.
I know. I was kidding. I just had this funny vision of the two of them standing before an audience full of greenery. And that CNN newshag who looks like she should have a feedbag tied around her neck.
This worked very well for Bush 41 in 1988, when he ambushed Dan Rather. Rather was laying for him with a "gotcha" question, but the Old Man turned it around and incinerated Our Man Dan -- I don't think he ever got over it, and it may have played a big part in his self-destruction in the document scandal that he tried to gin up against Bush 43.
The Old Man touched him up, and Junior polished him off. Can't think of a nicer outcome.
Wow~ -- FRiend, you just aced a cause for removal of Crowley immediately, for cause.
This is intolerable: the moderator is employed by a company that is in the dock and under hack before an Obama administrative-law judge? Just wow.
I know. I was kidding. I just had this funny vision of the two of them standing before an audience full of greenery.
Plants love Obama. He’s always shoveling out fertilizer.
Even worse, the administrative-law judge (an Obama donor) already ruled against CNN in 2009 .
Their appeal has since set before the 4 member NLRB board: 3 of them Obama appointees.
Tonight could be a 2+ million dollar payday (I estimate- not a labor lawyer) for CNN if Candy does right by Obama.
