Now they are saying he did NOT break the record for longest free fall, still trying to verify if he broke Mach 1.0...

Does get the record for highest ascent by man in a balloon...

I think the only question is whether or not he broke the speed of sound. Definitely the highest freefall, by far - which makes sense if it’s the highest baloon ascent. If his time in free fall was shorter than the record, that’d be by design - he wanted to be the fastest.

I was surprised to see the chute open before the record time. Wonder why? He still had a LOT of air below him, I think.
