WNDs report that Arabic-language and Islamic experts claim the gold band Obama has been wearing on his wedding-ring finger for more than 30 years is adorned with the first part of the Islamic declaration of faith naturally was met with skepticism in some circles, but Glenn Becks TheBlaze.com news service published a report citing a Duke professor who confirmed the WND experts assessment.
Earlier today, before it published the report, four members of The Blaze editorial team, including Editor-in-Chief Scott Baker, cautiously discussed the Obama ring story in their Blazecast Rewind Internet broadcast, without mentioning WND.
Baker, noting he had been inundated with links to the WND article, said he approached the story as he does other memes that float around the Internet and need to be either debunked or verified.
TheBlaze.com reporter Billy Hallowell told Baker he spoke with a professor from Duke who read the article, examined the photos and affirmed the conclusion of the WND experts.
Based on what he saw, he said that this is, essentially, Arabic script on the ring and that it is the first part of the Shahada, Hollowell said.

Those are squiggles. Just squiggles.
The question becomes, is “urbanlegends” the arbiter of truth??
I am asking if this is fact or fiction:
Barack is the name of Muhammad’s horse.
Hussein is the name of Shiite Muslim Royal lineage.
Obama is the name of BHO’s Muslim family lineage.
Nope.
On the other hand, there is a reason why WND is known (even here) as "World Nut Daily."
Credibility with the 15% (r whatever the number is) of voters that are “undecided”.
I want them to come my way and vote for my candidate. Going off a unproven (and probably false) theory about his ring; will earn their scorn. Rightfully so.
Again focus on real, fact checked issues such as the Libyan Embassy.
That should be a very damaging issue against Obama and Hillary Clinton.
And what faction would call WND, such a pejorative name? What is said reason for such a name and what do you consider reliable sources of information?
He may be a muslim, but the proof is not in that ring. Those are just squiggles.
I was expecting it to be engraving on the inside or something. My wife and I got my wedding ring in Bangkok and it has Thai writing on the inside saying how many karats the ring is. Something like that would make more sense, but this is just nonsense for the tinfoil hat folk.
I was ready to jump off on this stupid thing yesterday myself; and think it might be real.
I almost got suckered.
Good grief; I need to get a life and not read that kind of garbage.
Can you give me a list of “factions” on FR to choose off of?
One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness, bind them.
Hmmmm...sounds exactly like a strong tenent/doctrine of Islam! ;)
Hah! That clears it up. The design isn’t the muslim thingee at all ... it’s clearly a SERPENTINE pattern, which proves ....
Obama is a snake.
The word “Allah” looks like a fancy “W” so who knows?
It looks like a serpent.
I have no idea, one would need to be:
1. Knower of Arabic and its various decorative styles
2. Be able to see the whole ring.
Bottom line is I do not trust “debunkers” who are leftists such as the Ask.com debunker cited above.
Which news outlet is right more often than not:
World Net Daily.
Your choice of Mainstream Media.
Freepers who pi** on WND are odd creatures indeed. They prefer Newsweek? The NYT? Time? MSNBC? ABC? I’d like to know which one they think is more reliable. Note that I am not saying “100% truthful an accurate 100% of the time” - nothing is.
The undecided voters who would be put off by an article speculating that 0bastard’s ring has Muslim incsriptions on it are such weak sisters they’ll never vote for him anyway.
Caring about stupid or uniformed peoples’ scorn is a miserable way to live.
Given the closeup photo, it’s not text in any language. The attempts to glean some Arabic characters from that are obviously stretches based on digital artifacts of low-res photos.
Whether the design is symbolic for some faith, well, that’s a question worth investigating.
Someone unfamiliar with the Christian “cross” design may overlook significance imbued upon two overlapping sticks in that form, or moreso three nails similarly arranged. As the Obama has worn that ring - and only _that_ ring - since before he was married, it obviously has some deep significance to him beyond a few gold squiggles & lines.
Anyone who follows and election knows that segment is will swing the election either way. Has been that way for years.
If Mitt Romney started running campaign ads yesterday based on a WND article about Obama’s ring; he would be laughed off the ballot.
Not sure why people want to focus on all these kooky, fringe storylines; when there is such a rich vein of REAL material out there.
