A U.S. lawmaker called Wednesday for a boycott of public transit systems in Washington and other cities running a pro-Israel advertisement that denounces "the savage" in Muslim countries, AFP reported.
The advertisements, which have also run on trains in New York and buses in San Francisco, went up this week at four stations in the U.S. capital area after a federal judge ruled that the group enjoyed a right to free speech.
Citing security concerns, the operator of the Metro had sought to delay the billboards, which read, "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."
Representative Mike Honda, a Democrat from California, said he supported the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of free speech and understood the court order for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to run the advertisements.
But "the right to not support hate speech is also a right, which is why I encourage people to boycott, if possible, WMATA" and public transit in the other places where the ad is running until the ad buys are finished, Honda said in a statement.
"We do not have to support hate speech," he added, according to AFP.
Honda, who as a child was interned at a camp due to his Japanese ancestry, said he took the issue "very personally" because he remembered the "hateful billboards and caricatures that equated Japanese Americans to savages" during World War II.
"We learn from history that hate speech and hysteria have dire consequences, the result of societal complacency, failed political leadership and the lack of courage to stand up and speak out against hate," he said.

Make that Dec. 7, 1941
Were you born on a "leap" year? hehhehheh...
Oh, right. Sorry. So that makes him only six months old, and he was maybe a year old when internment started, and still only five years old at the end.
Only 4 years old! Barely cognizant, and he’s supposed to remember a bunch of hateful billboards?! What a lying sack of s@#$!
In the Chamber of Commerce special section of our (So CA) newspaper there was a ribbon cutting recently of yet another Subway. Eastern Indian owned.
Interesting what business attracts certain ethnicities.
Motels now have E. Indian owners/operators. Koreans own/operate dry cleaners.
And so it goes.
What is regrettable is because when they are so recent from their countries, they haven’t quite caught our style of living and operating, as per your example. (Ragging on a new employee..).
Don’t know our manners, etiquette, culture.
If the owner has been here for ages, they often hire a relative just new to the country. Hopefully, these owners pass on how it is to be “American!’ After they learn it themselves.
They are steeped in how it was to interact with people in their home country. And some of that is not pleasant here.
Employees of these bosses had best be prepped for this.
Yes, he's trying to pull the wool over our eyes. With his listed birthdate (June 1941), he would have been about one year old when he and his family were sent to an internment camp and a little over four when they would have been released.
I'm not defending Roosevelt's internment of Japanese-Americans as a war policy. But since it occurred at such a young age, Cong. Honda would probably have no personal memory of that time in his life. He would only remember what he was later told by his parents and other elders about that period.
Another example of revisionist history used by the left to make spurious arguments!!!
I just really am sick of these useful tools for the left. I just cannot understand how they think they are immune from sharia law?
Thanks justiceseeker93.
