Wading into an explosive social issue, Republican Mitt Romney on Tuesday said he would not pursue any abortion-related legislation if elected president.
"There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda," he told the Des Moines Register in an interview posted on the newspaper's website.

The article presents scenarios whereby what he has to say in promising no abortion legislation can very easily test his true, heartfelt position on abortion, have him stop playing around on the issue. It's either the gift of life or murder. There's no third option.
He can do more later. Right now we just need to get the commie out of our whitehouse!
false headline by the criminal liberal media....he said there’s no legislation in regards to abortion he is familiar with....why doesn’t the Assssociated Press offer evidence of legislation...
Legislation comes from Congress. A President can’t outlaw abortion.
He has said he’d cut funding to Planned Parenthood.
That’s a step in the right direction. Not something Big Bird would do in a million years.
Because they’re big fat liars, but you knew that. :)
This is just a lame attempt to put off right to life voters. We’d all be off better in the 0bama camp, not!
So Obama is promising to legislate abortion away?
Good, that is not the POTUS job that is the states job. Same with marriage.
Cut off the funding.
If you believe what you said then you do not believe in Federalism and the separation of powers.
At this time there is nothing a President can do about this issue. Nor SHOULD a President be able to do anything about it. It is outside the purview of the office.
Is the abortion issue really that important right now for Romney to even make any declarations of what he will or won’t do? I think not. I’ve told my daughter to not put herself in position where she can’t be a responsible Christian and similar advice to my son.
I am worried that I won’t be able to feed my family, pay my rent and other bills. I am worried that I can’t afford college tuition. I am worried that Islamic fanatics are plotting their next strike on US soil and we’ll have a President that will apologize because we didn’t understand that it was me, and my fellow Americans that offended them so much that their attack was justified. I’me worried that my kids and grandkids will be burden with a debt that will take their lifetime to overcome.
Abortion, Big Bird, PBS, etc.... is way down the list of important things to address.
All Mitt needs to do is appoint the right kind of judges.
I am amazed at how little coverage the SCOTUS issue is getting in
the campaign. Who needs more Kagans and Sotomayors? Bambi would
probably appoint that gay guy from CA who nuked Prop 8.
Obama does not care about Muslim terrorists.
Romney does care about Muslim terrorists.
You have that right. Just a cheap attempt to keep people from voting for Romney.
Ditto....
I tend to think of Romney as someone whose first thought in the morning is not about abortion. That can be a good thing.
The most important thing he can do on abortion is to appoint solid pro-life justices to the Supreme Court. I don’t know if he will, but they’re bound to be better than any justices appointed by Bamster on life issues.
There is a big difference between not having any legislation on the agenda and not taking any action on abortion... He has already said he would defund Planned Parenthood, reinstate the Mexico City policy, reinstate the policy forbidding abortions at federal military facilities, etc. I think Romney will appoint pro-life judges and justices. But his campaign is about the economy - so should he start promising to put abortion legislation ahead of that? Especially since we, as conservatives, have long held that the Federal government never had any business interfering with the states right to regulate or ban the practice in the first place?
He said he would cut off funding for Planned Parenthood.
He said he would offer no legislation on abortion.
Either he means to do the first through Executive Order, not a good idea, or he means to not do it at all despite his promises. The other option is that one of these statements is not what he said.
