Sorry, the eastern cottonmouth does have that banded pattern. Not yet familiar with the regional variations.

Both of your posts caused me to goggle a bit since the only Cottonmouths I’ve seen have been black while the Copperheads were coppery color and banded.
Hm, depending on the area cottonmouths can be lighter colored and banded.
Since I ain’t going to get close for a positive ID I’ll just classify any snake similar to the two “Bad Snake Stay Away”.
