The Kurds sit on some of the oil in northern Iraq. They are trying to work a deal with Bahgdad to become completely autonomous. Right now Exxon Mobil, Total and Chevron are cutting deals with the Kurdistan regional government. The oil fields in the south are more productive but the Kurds are asking for less royalty.
