Your theories would've worked up to about 1975, after that? With the economy being what it is, usually both parents have to work, it's not optional unless one of the spouses have a really good job. And by single parent I was including divorcees and widows/widowers. And not all grandparents are still living or able to help. 2012 is not The Walton's 1930’s or Father Knows Best's 1950’s. BTW, my late father said the Waltons would've been considered a rich family where he grew up during the depression. There were times that his family of 8 only had a potato. Not one per person, one total.

You've posted a lot of negatives, now how about some positive suggestions on what can be done. If parents seriously want to home school, or send the kids to parochial/private schools, they will have to find a way to do it. There are no absolutes to your statements...there ARE parents who WILL make the sacrifices, there ARE grandparents who WILL be willing to step up and help, there ARE retired teachers out there who WILL hopefully offer assistance to those who need it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Start with a positive outlook and work toward a postive solution.

And in the meantime, we must take back our school system from the socialists. That's but one of the big ticket agenda items.
