Just as the stars looked like they might be aligning for Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and his quest to become the next secretary of state, fate has intervened yet again.
This time, it came in the form of a dismal debate performance by President Obama in his first showdown with Republican Mitt Romney last week. Suddenly, a second Obama term and Kerrys chance for a starring role in it seemed much less certain.
It didnt help that Kerry was Obamas chosen sparring partner as he prepared or failed to prepare for that all-important first debate. Michael Moores widely reported Twitter rant during Romneys smack-down of the president included this tweet from the ultra-liberal filmmaker: This is what happens when (you) pick John Kerry as your debate coach.
The foreign policy speech Obama asked him to deliver in Charlotte was viewed as a tryout for the countrys top diplomatic post. Kerrys remarks were smart, funny and, for him, amazingly self-deprecating. Peggy Noonan, the conservative Wall Street Journal columnist, described it as the speech of his life.
Then, fellow Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown a Republican told debate moderator David Gregory that Kerry is the right man for the job at State. Given his need to appeal to Bay State Democrats, they were a nice nod to Kerrys hometown favorability.
Soon after the Benghazi attack, Susan Rice, the ambassador to the United Nations who is also considered Kerrys chief rival for secretary of state, started taking serious political heat.
With Obama in the White House, Kerry often stretches to give the president cover on delicate issues, including the current controversy over the Sept. 11 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.

Maybe Vietnam needs a sec of state. He was there y’know.
Hey, Mitt could always appoint him ambassador to Cambodia
(a place seared, seared in his memory).
Make him ambassador to Viet Nam, after all he did serve in Viet Nam and has at least 3 purple hearts /s
There's a post available in Libya.
I’d appoint him ambassador to Gilligan’s Island...
Awwwww! Poor John wanted to be president, but then George Bush took that away. They he wanted the status of senior senatore, but then Scott Brown came along and is more prominent. And now he wants to be secretary of state, and Mitt Romney will take that away too. Oh, and he won’t be Mr. Chairman anymore after next January either. And Richard Lugar’s gone so an actual republican will be chairman of the Foreign Relations committee. Poor John!
He was also pals with the NVA “doplomats” in Paris.
Could you possibly post THAT pic next to Obama’s squishy pic when he sees the wrestlers in the Front Lawn of the White House??? Thanks in advance! WUSS CENTRAL!!
Maybe he could buy himself a nice little island like Saipan or Guam and make himself king.
OOPS...they were Karate kids.
Oh John! Why the long face!
Poor John Carey, the traitor with Jane Fonda suffers another bit of bad luck!
The link below is a time machine going back to October 2004 when the maggot infected mediots and their knee pad pollsters were declaring Kerry would be president:
Well, Fraud, that brown around your nose is not the same as rice in your butt.
“Maybe Vietnam needs a sec of state. He was there yknow.”
Let’s send Hillary there to rot.
People shouldn’t pick on Kerry. I’m sure he did the best he could ... and the appalling thing is, he’s about as good as the Senate dims have got. Take a deep breath, step back, and look at the Senate democrat caucus. It’s pathetic. I can’t think of a sorrier bunch representing either party in my lifetime. There used to be democrat senators of serious stature, whether one agreed with them or not. Today I honestly can’t think of one who commands serious personal respect. The best of them are mere hacks. Pitiful.
FWIW, Vennochi’s back after serving a slap-on-the-wrist suspension for plagiarizing a GOP consultant about the time of the RNC convention.
