Don't take this as a defense of slavery, as it's not.
But, the reality is that slaves were mostly sold into slavery by their own people. That's relatively well-known, if not always acknowledged.
However, slaves weren't just picked at random. They were the losers in Africa's own wars of conquest. If they hadn't been sold into slavery, they may have been executed instead.
The Black Avenger, Ken Hamblin, once said on his radio show, that he is GLAD his ancestors were brought over, for obvious reasons today.
