Sam Donaldson: 'If Obama Comes to the Next Two Debates With the Same Demeanor He's Losing'

Sam Donaldson had some harsh words this weekend for President Obama's performance at Wednesday's debate.

Appearing on the syndicated Chris Matthews Show, the former ABC White House correspondent said, "If he comes to the next two debates with the same demeanor, with the same passive resistance, he’s losing" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Sam Donaldson: 'If Obama Comes to the Next Two Debates With the Same Demeanor He's Losing'

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Sam, huge impact of that debate Wednesday night?

SAM DONALDSON: Big. Think John Kennedy in 1960, think Ronald Reagan in 1980. It's possibly that big because the president seemed to be on a glide path toward re-election, and all of a sudden here comes the raging bull, Mitt Romney, out of the dock, and the toreador runs for the safety exits instead of counterpunching, instead of getting him hard. What happened to Barack Obama? I'm not certain. I don't know. But I know this: if he comes to the next two debates with the same demeanor, with the same passive resistance, he’s losing.

MATTHEWS: Wow!

Wow indeed.

I don’t think McCain can be compared to Romney in this respect. Romney hasn’t suspended his campaign, not for any reason. Romney wasn’t a brainwashed POW. Romney is independently wealthy. Romney has executive experience, on a large scale (see: the 2002 Winter Olympics).

His campaign is now starting to build momentum. I do not believe at all that he’s going to “throw” things and betray his supporters. I just have a gut feeling that’s not the case.

I was not comparing McLame to Romney...I was suggesting that he did not want to win, as some are saying about Obama. Romney is in this to WIN! And he will!

I don’t think Moochele wants to win either. I have heard rumblings about her wanting out of the WH. Their 35M mansion in Hawaii is being prepared for them, they both want out.

I didn’t think McCain wanted to win either. He looked relieved in his concession speech.

I mean seperate but together like the Clintons. A fake marriage. Look and George and Laura compared to the Clintons. That is how Odingo and Wookie will spend the rest of their miserable lives.

I suspect he will come out with the exact opposite demeanor, some type of pseudo-tough guy act, and will still look just as foolish.

Oddly though people in AZ think McPain wanted to win in 2008 and they voted for him again in 2010 to show their good faith. Republican primary voters often do stupid things, it seems.

Maybe barry feels secure about stealing the election. You know, like his buddy Hugo just did.

ACORN in it’s current incarnations will do their best to provide enough voter fraud to get Obama back into the White Hut.

I am in Nevada & we cannot seem to get it stopped. Too many Democrats here supporting such activities.

You believe the Dems will come up with a real version of electronic cheating?

Long bitter experience has taught me that evil people will INVARIABLY accuse others of committing whatever crime they themselves are engaged in.

Good Lord, but Michelle has such an ugly demeaner and hateful look.

Only if you catch her on a good day...

I've been saying for months Obama’s running to lose.

My God. He's turned into McCain!

Could Obama be as bad as he seems?

If only he was as bad as he seems.

He's far, far worse.

On the other hand, if Obama comes to the next debate with lies and accusations about women’s health and the 47%, he will lose, as well, because he can count on Romney being ready and waiting for those accusations, the way he was ready for Obama’s attempt to pin Romney down to the Obamacare law. It would be a rope a dope and Obama would end up looking like a fool, again.

The problem is that Obama is an objective testing kind of guy, he’s good at fill in the blanks and true or false, but when you get into the deeper, blue book type of response, Obama flounders and just rambles on and on.

There's a liberal moderator - so the only questions about foreign policy will be ones that t makes Obama look good. Or attempt to make Romney look bad.

And if the audience is allowed to ask questions, those questions will be selected by the same liberals running the scam... and strangely enough, those questions will be of the same type the effing liberal elite moderators would ask - but they'll sound 'folksy'...

If nothing else, MSM whores are predictable...

“It doesn’t really matter in the big picture if he turns on conservatives.......What matters is he won’t turn on America.”

Turning on “conservatives” is TURNING ON AMERICA. Real Americans that have the country’s best interests at heart are CONSERVATIVES. IF he turns on us, then he has turned on REAL America.

Nope, although I admire Romney’s skilled job he did debating Obama, and hope he continues to do the same, I cannot support him. IF he wins, I will be very glad that Obama didn’t get reelected, but I won’t be glad it was Romney that was elected in his place.

That is as far as I can go with Romney...admiration for the skillful way he sliced and diced Obama and wishes he continues to do so. However, I will not give him my vote. He has not earned it. IF he gets elected and doesn’t go liberal or use his office to spread Mormonisn...then he will get my vote for reelection in 2016...but not in 2012. Those are big IFs and I suspect he won’t meet either.
