As we wound our way through the lines I watched and listened. I heard latinos/hispanics talking about what socialism is like and how its unbelievable to see it happening here.....SE Mom
Why am I so opposed to Leftist ideas? I experienced what it was like because I vividly remember as a child the 1967 Communist riots in Hong Kong....Ray
I can still recall to this day a student forum I was involved in in 1969 in which I was branded a “liberal” for advocating that the US grant automatic asylum to anyone who had escaped a communist country—allowing for the vetting of possible agents of foreign governments.
Of course, my point was that our best hedge against communism here was people who had actually EXPERIENCED it elsewhere.
It took me decades to make my point, I think.
It is somewhat dismaying that fifteen or so years after the fall of the Iron curtain most Americans have totally forgotten that there were people risking their lives to escape Communist hell. My family was one, and we, due to being from an East-European communist country did go to the front of the line in the US Visa lottery.
Over the years we have had the Communist press in America (CBS, ABC, CNN, etc.) cover for Vietnam, Cambodia, Daniel Ortega (Reagan) in Nicaragua, Chavez in Venezuela, Zimbabwe, South Africa and now for the last four years here in the USA.
Some founder (Franklin?) said something about Democracy and freedom being nice if you can keep it.
Socialists, either from the Democrat party or RINOs are all after the same thing, telling everyone what to do, when to do it and how to do it. -short for Slavery.
Limited G’ment is the only answer. Anything else is a slippery road that get quickly traveled.
