SAN FRANCISCO -- California gas prices rose 17 cents a gallon overnight due to supply disruptions at some refineries and seasonally low inventories, bringing the one-week increase in the Golden State to nearly 36 cents.
The average retail price of gasoline was $4.486 on Friday morning, up from $4.315 on Thursday and $4.131 a week ago, according to AAA data. The average price was $3.818 a year ago.
The average price is just 12 cents below the highest recorded statewide price of $4.61, which was reached in June of 2008.
"It's insane," said Matt Hurd, 35, who works in real estate. "Especially with this thing," he added, motioning toward his white SUV. "It's going to cost triple digits to fill it up."
In recent weeks, California refineries have dropped production in anticipation of switching over to a "winter blend" of gasoline next month.
At the same time, a power outage at Exxon Mobil Corp's Torrance, California refinery on Monday and a shutdown of the crude distillation unit at Chevron Corp's Richmond, California refinery contributed to the tight supplies.

Has the Richmond Chevron refinery come back on line?
You must keep in mind that California was a conservative state until the 1980s when a huge influx of Easterners started pouring in here bringing their Liberal c#*p with them. Just like what is happening in Colorado right now. It isn't us native Californians that have brought this on ourselves.
California Gas Prices Force Some Station Owners to Shut Pumps

“A gallon of regular gas was $5.69 Thursday in Calabasas, while a gallon of super costs $5.89 with cash and $5.99 with credit. Such prices are causing pain at the pump for many drivers who might see an 11-cent increase by later this morning, which means some could be paying more than $6 a gallon.”
Californians will scream and shout about $6/gal. gas but will they demand more pipelines and refinery capacity? In a word...No.
Evidently the pain isn’t great enough yet to produce a change in attitude.
Obambi bumper stickers on all the SUVs I see at the gas station in Los Gatos
Wonder if they're all insane
Liberals guiding the rudder of the ship. It’s time for a new captain. BTW I filled up Wednesday at 3.43 in nowhere South Carolina. Still to damn high IMHO.
What motivated the influx of Easterners to CA?
(No offense to those intelligent Californians out there.)
just listening to a guy from gasbuddy on KFI and he indicated we could have a gas shortage by next weekend unless the state allows inport of gas from other states.... ummm 5.00-6.00 here we come
Damn 2nd where the heck do you live?
I'm paying 3.78. (Southern NJ)
So all of the refinery have problems or in the process of switching over to the Winter blend of Gasoline required by the State,....
A pipeline is shut down because of some unapproved chlorine or whatever in the mix of product in the pipeline....
State regulations will not allow for much of the Gasoline available in other States ....like Nevada to be transported in because of California having higher standards that the US EPA.
He thought High Gas prices are going to be with us for awhile....
Time to resurrect the pre-Obama gas price post-it reminders and stick them on every gas pump paypoint.
Gas prices in Oregon jumped 6 to 10 cents overnight.
I assume those “economically challenged” by the “new normal” can just leave their hooptey in the driveway and ride the “high speed rail”.

Does NJ still prohibit the customer from pumping the gasoline? I thought that I read sometime back there maybe a change in the works..
Moonbeam talks BIG however.
he is also going with driverless cars.
Imagine if Obama was having the EPA interrupt production at refineries in ‘safe’ states so excess oil went to refineries in ‘battleground’ states to keep their gas prices down...
Can’t help thinking about it, got my tinfoil around here somewhere.
The temperate coastal cities, no snow, sunny almost year round, Hollywood, Disneyland, etc. Few Libs here in Northeast Calif where I live; heavy snow and rednecks (like me) with guns.
