A Florida school district is considering a plan to install surveillance cameras on cafeteria trash cans to monitor what kids are throwing away after they discovered that students were tossing out their federally-mandated fruit and vegetables.
The Lake County School Board said more than $75,000 worth of vegetables have been thrown in the garbage. The veggies and fresh fruit are party of the Obama administrations policy to force schools to provide healthy produce in lunch rooms.

We need one of those “OBEY” posters with a sub caption of “Eat your vegetables. Big Brother is watching.”
This fits well with your comment.

Kids will always beat the system. If the unwanted food isn’t allowed in the garbage, it will be put somewhere else. Limit calories, they’ll smuggle in candy bars. With government bullying, there are always unintended consequences.
LOL ! I remember they would have ice cream as a treat but you had to clean everything off and I got ice cream but didn’t eat some of the food and got into big trouble. This was in grade school.
> In elementary school back in the 1950s, I would stuff those awful stewed tomatoes into my empty milk carton because the school principal would stand over the trash cans to check our trays.
Eat your peas.
(*or face a fine of $10,000 and/or a term of not less than two years in a Federal prison)
The cameras will allow identification of the students “wasting” government food. Once identified, the parents of the guilty students can be fined and punished for the waste of resources by their kids.
My question is what do they do to a child who throws away their vegetables?
Sounds like my elementary school! Only for me, it was some awful sweet white rice and raisin concoction that I couldn’t even gag down! Unfortunately, we had glass milk bottles, so there was no where to hide it.
I went to catholic school in the early 60’s. They made you eat everything on your tray. I was a picky eater and would wrap my food in my napkin and throw it away. I learned to do that after I threw it under the table once and got caught.
Time for some perspective here. Parents pay the taxes for the salaries, the building, the food, etc. Parents should tell the school “Change the f’ing menu’’. End of story.
How much are they planning on spending on these Trash-Cams, and don't we have something more important that the money should be spent on? Has emperor Hussein 0bama decreed that it is a crime to toss veggies?
In sixth grade I had a mean principal. She would stand watch in the cafeteria. Many of us would stuff red beets into milk cartons... until one day she started checking milk cartons. The we would wrap them into napkins and stuff it into our pockets. Made a soggy mess. That principal would make kids wait out the entire lunch period in the cafeteria until they ate everything on their tray.
What's wrong with this phrase? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
