Brown Acts On Driver's License, Deportation Bills
By Patrick McGreevy and Anthony York October 1, 2012
SACRAMENTO Gov. Jerry Brown signed a new law that will allow hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses and vetoed another that would have restricted sheriffs from helping federal authorities detain undocumented Californians for potential deportation.
His actions, announced Sunday as the deadline neared to finish work on nearly 1,000 bills sent to him by the Legislature this year, followed an intense week of protests, prayer vigils and lobbying by immigrant advocacy groups.
The governor also revived a tax break for Hollywood, allowed juvenile killers serving life in prison a chance for release and outlawed treatment intended to turn gay children straight. The laws take effect Jan. 1.
The immigration bills sparked the most controversy.
The driver's license measure will make illegal immigrants eligible to drive legally in California if they qualify for a new federal work permit program. That Obama administration protocol allows illegal immigrants who came to the United States before they were 16, and who are now 30 or younger and meet certain other criteria, to obtain work permits.
"Gov. Brown believes the federal government should pursue comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship," said Brown spokesman Gil Duran. "President Obama has recognized the unique status of these students, and making them eligible to apply for driver's licenses is an obvious next step."
Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), the measure's author, had been crusading for such a law since a broader measure he pushed through the Legislature in 2003 prompted a voter backlash. The earlier bill was signed into law by former Gov. Gray Davis, who was ousted from office soon afterward. Before it took effect, lawmakers repealed it.

And one bill Gil is dancing on the table tonight.
Just what California needs........1000 more laws/bills.
The village called...
.... their IDIOT is missing....
So for what...app a decade?...the proponents of this have gone over, under, behind, and around the will of the Californian citizens until they got their way. Yet ‘rats have the nerve to tell us that Obamacare is now a done deal and we should move on, there are “more important” matters to deal with. But those matters aren’t ever so important that they give up their pet projects to destroy America. Just the sodomite agenda-they’re still at it, and once everyone has “moved on” after they achieve every last bit of it, they’ll start adjusting the norms to “man-boy love”, incest, polygamous “marriage”, etc.
What’s needed is both. An initiative to reverse this and a Gov. Brown recall. The Rats never learn their lesson until they get kicked in the groin.
I replied: And now local law enforcement are prohibited from reporting illegal aliens to immigration. In effect, then, there is zero enforcement of immigration laws. That, because as Hispanics now make up over 40% of the population, and a majority of the population believe that illegals should be as good as citizens. Next step: make it as easy and legal as pie for illegals to come over to and move to California, ready for amnesty. Just do away with or undermine federal immigration agents, and let them (Mexicans) come. Beyond that, extensive wealth taxes are on the agenda as California will seek to redistribute $ and sustain its welfare state by pirating the assets of established wealth.
No, Dante, I agree with you on most issues, but not here. This influx of low income poorly educated immigrants and their offspring will be the opposite of libertarian. They will go ahead and push for whats in their self-interest
to democratically get $ from the wealthier half.. de facto redistributed to them. And the problem for the other 49 states is that an open borders CA will serve as the jumping off spot for the new immigrants and their clans. Like a gangrene, CA needs to be cordoned off from the rest of the country.
I am a native Californian, was born here and returned here after I got out of the Corps. Now I am retired here. I hate to have to admit it, but I agree with you 100%. California has become a cancer on the United States and should be treated with radiation therapy and the knife.
