The Romney campaign is experiencing what some officials believe could be the beginning of a mass exodus of big money donors diverting their cash away from the Republican presidential hopeful and toward Republican candidates for the House and Senate races more likely to win in November, the FOX Business Network has learned.
The trend isnt at the acute stage, at least not yet, said one person with direct knowledge of the matter. This person, a major player in Romneys New York fundraising circles, confirmed to FOX Business that a few New York donors have backed away from financial commitments to the Romney campaign and instead said they will spend their money to help the Republicans hold on to the House of Representatives, and pick up seats in the Senate.
But another person with direct knowledge of the matter says the trend, though nascent, is more geographically broad based, and reflects an increasing degree of anxiety both with what they believe is the tentative nature of the Romney campaign, and recent poll numbers that show President Obama with a lead, particularly in key battleground states, that some Republican contributors are starting to believe is insurmountable.
Why don’t you tell me. After all sounds like you have it all figured out.
I’m not the one who has forgotten that the president isn’t the only branch of government.
Do you realize that the pro-Romney SuperPACS have over a BILLION dollars stocked-up?
Dr. Evil....”ONE BILLION DOLLARS (PINKY TO MOUTH)!”
This crap has always been cleaned up by the mods, like pronto. Frustratingly it’s starting to become acceptable behavior.
Or the big money donors have already maxed out their donation to Romney, and are now donating to house and senate candidates. It’s not like you can give a lot of money to a candidate directly. They could give about $6000 in the primary, and another $6000 in the general election. Then they have to give money elsewhere.
Realize earlier the story was that Romney had raised lots of money, but a lot of it was targeted to house and senate races and state parties. Again, trying to make it sound bad — but it’s the same election laws, Romney could only take a few thousand, but could raise unlmited amounts for political parties in “soft money”. So if he hit up a millionaire, it was inevitable that the millionaire would give MOST of the money to things other than Romney’s campaign.
Everyone needs to stop freaking out at every thing they hear on the media, Fox included. Stay focused on the goal. It is good that some money is going to the Senate and House races. It needs to because here in Florida, Bill Nelson has been running strong and he needs to go. I was wondering when the money would get to some important races.
Romney hasn’t had a chance yet to debate the punk. Give him a chance.
This Wednesday evening we get to see—in the flesh—the difference between a mature, successful businessman and a narcissistic, affirmative action fraud.
It’s been a long time, four years since we’ve seen competence. Patience. And the MSM polls? Ne carborundum illegitimati sint.
Sometimes FR is like the girls cabin at summer camp with a garter snake in a corner. Let’s stop the squealing. It’s scaring the little kids.
Maybe it’s just me, but I have been donating to Senate & House races since the beginning of this campaign. I gave my only contribution to Romney yesterday. None, of course, to the actual RNC. Don’t know how that would be used. I have also been giving to the NRA, who I trust will do good work in this election.
Jeeze can we at least give him a break until the first debate?? We are 36 days out from an election and he’s tied with an incumbent. Not a bad place to be. In fact he’s probably in a stronger position than Reagan in 1980.
“I’m at a loss. We have the most incompetent and destructive president in history. He is destroying the country piecemeal. ANYONE should be able to beat him, but he may win in a bigger landslide than he did against McCain. What is happening is a direct result of the media”
All of this we warned would happen if Romney were nominated. What a waste.
Obama’s going to lose, just watch.
Romney’s got to be on the attack, not the defensive. He needs to produce strong, hard-hitting, anti-Obama ads. When the media is offended or threatened by anti-Obama ads, they’ll cover them and try to debunk them. That just ends up giving the ads free airtime, and taking time away that they would otherwise spend attacking Romney directly. Just look at the swift boat ads. Everyone in the country heard about them through the media and the media had less time to point out flaws about Bush when they were busy trying to “debunk” the ads.
“If the WH is not turned over this year, the House and Senate are meaningless. He will do everything by Executive Order and the Congress will be unable to stop him.”
Pure nonsense. First thing up with Republican house + senate - pass a budget cutting most of the trash he’s put in the last 4 years and cleaning house.
That first budget is going to be horrifying.
They called us a few time and no one made any anti Romney cracks.
Its about TIME YOUR GOT OVER THE PRIMARY !
its OVER .
Your usual divide and conquer game is not appreciated not needed.
Unless we get 2/3 of the Senate (and how likely is *that*?),Osama Obama will have more flexibility to issue Executive Orders. With them,he can easily finish off in his second term the nation that he's brought to its knees in his first.
“Your usual divide and conquer game is not appreciated not needed.”
Nor are our ballots needed or appreciated by the Republican party. We rode in the back of the bus last time - this time, no.
Once is a mistake, twice is a habit. Time to stop nominating RINOs!
Exactly! If the media can control a Romney campaign then they will be able to control a Romney Presidency.
Charles Gasparino is no flack and you should know that. He has heard something that matters and reported it, hoping to light a fire in someone’s pants who needs to show leadership and not a Miss Manners approach to war.
Sheesh.
