The kid’s 16, won’t even get to trial until he’s 17, will be released when he turns 18.

If I was in charge, the kid wouldn't reach 17.

Although I do not practice in NY, the normal procedure elsewhere is to obscure the identity of a juvenile defendant by referring to him as "C.L." instead of giving his full name and all of this identifying information about his father, etc. So, since we are privy to this, either the police have been extremely sloppy or the decision to try him as an adult has been made. I'd say it is the latter and this guy won't be seeing anything but Sing-Sing, until he is about twice 18.
