Karyn Frist filed for divorce from her husband of 31 years just this month.
Bill Frist was one of the most ineffectual Senate Majority Leaders after Trent Lott. Both bozos never missed a chance to a miss chance. They were prime examples of what is wrong with the GOPee members of the Senate [and still is].
Limp wrist Frist went liberal ages ago.
The only medical insurance we could ever afford after my dad left his Air Force career was insurance on him, as the chief breadwinner. OMG how did his 8 kids ever survive, given we were always poor?!?!?!?
What did they do when I broke my arm - they paid the doctor, who set it in a cast, period. What did they do when I split my forehead open, to where you could see the skull - they paid the doctor who stiched me up in his office.
What did they do when one of us had a cold with a fever - home remedies until the fever broke; chicken pox - topical ointments until the bumps and iching subsided; severe sore throat - salt water gargle until it cleared up; chest and sinus congesttion related coughs - vicks vaporizer and chest packs; burns - ice followed by vaseline followed by gauze bandages; twisted ankle - no walking on foot, ice packs and foot kept elevated until weight could be put on foot again; stomach pains - pepto bismol, milk of magnesia, warm seven up and soda crackers, white rice in chicken broth and other “treatments” until stomach settled and identified by pain gone and ability to eat was normal;

no - because they did the kinds of things their parents had done as well as things they learned from others.
I never once saw a hospital or an emergency room and never had any kind of regular doctor, check up, or physical; neither did any of my seven siblings; all now surviving into our 60s and beyond.
Excessive health insurance has made for a medically ignorant and pampered “modern generation” that could never believe we all survived as children without it; as did our parents and grandparents and great-grandparents.
There you go - the beard comes off.
I generally agree, but there are hard cases, like chronic conditions that require expensive treatment.
If we returned to the old system, there is no doubt in my mind that charity would provide in these cases.
The difficulty is getting from here to there.

He’s right I believe, and it will require a staged process where people with health insurance set up by their employer would be moved to employers’ premium support for policies the employee choses themselves, policies sold in any state for coverage in any state - open national, personal health insurance market.
The big government plans would first be deconstructed to this model, providing the base for the big private employer and union based plans to follow, deconstructing themselves in the same fashion, adding back into the “individual” health insurance marketplace all the reserves and revenues that have been held in the giant segregated government, employer and union plans. Individual policies will become more affordable by that change alone. In time, employers can then gradually move from insurance premium support to one time wage increases, without changing “total compensation”. Eventually, the employer would no longer have a role, and “the poor” can be assisted with direct-voucher style premium support - again for whatever policy with whomever the individual selects.
I think 3K is too much based on how over-insured those that have health insurance are. Many “mandatory” coverages should be completely optional, some things (doctors visit) should not be insured at all, and more of a health insurance premium should go into a health savings account, creating more healthcare dollars spent at the individual’s discretion and increasing consumer market forces on many health care items.
Both Rand Paul and I agree that someone’s health insurance ought to “go with them” for as long as they want that policy, and regardless of changes of employment.
That does not require a “single payer” system. It requires a single open national market, with nationally available policies, that all individuals from all states participate in, regardless of employment. To do that will require staged deconstruction of the individual state markets with plans available by and segregated by employment; which currently leaves the largest revenues and reserves in health insurance segregated out of a truly open market.
None of the above can be attempted without recognition, in the law, that the essential requirement of regulation of any insurance industry is not for the products it offers, but, just like banks it is for the financial soundness of their operations - that revenues and reserves and things like stop-loss insurance all amount to an operation that looks like it can meet the insured risks it has taken on. Insurance regulation should not be for telling anyone, insurer or insurance policy holder, what kind of policy must be sold. Yes it must be clear what a policy insures and what it doesn’t; that’s transparency of contracts.
But a big part of what has been making health insurance so expensive and which continues in Obamacare is regulation (which began in the states) mandating what a policy MUST provide. If you don’t want to “insure” for any means of contraception, that (and anything else you don’t want to insure) ought to be your right and insurance “regulation” should have nothing to say about it.
Bill Frist is a doctor. Doctors get paid from insurance covarage. This is ‘Cover-Your-Ass’ stuff from Bill Frist. He does not speak for me. I am a CONSERVATIVE. Health Care be damned. It is not guaranteed by the Constitution. Bill Frist and John Roberts can both go to hell.

Frist has a fortune in the millions of dollars, most of it the result of his ownership of stock in Hospital Corporation of America, the for-profit hospital chain founded by his brother and father. Frist's 2005 financial disclosure form lists blind trusts valued between $15 million and $45 million.
It is all part of crony capitalism. In much the same way as AARP does, Frist stands to benefit financially from Obamacare.
Doctors should stick to medicine. They are notoriously dim when it comes to economics. What I don’t understand is how a Rebublican senator cannot see how every government program is a miserable failure that always costs more and delivers less than promised. There is no free lunch.
In his 2009 memoir, Frist recounted meeting his future wife in 1979 when he attended to her at a clinic in Boston. He was engaged to another woman in Tennessee and broke it off a week before the wedding.
