Not exactly the same thing.

Obviously dogs are different than guns, everyone knows that.
It is the response that is similar.
That response being to call for the ban of the perceived offensive object.
Dogs in one case, guns in the other.

In both cases the banner refuses to acknowledge the human responsibility for the tragic occurrence.

The drive-by shooter irresponsibly sprays the street with bullets and a baby is killed.
Someone in the Burleson house left a baby alone with a dog,
an irresponsible act no matter what the type of dog, and a baby is killed.
