At least Lugar in't being a sore loser.
IIRC, Tailgunner Joe was in the Army Air Corps, not the Marine Corps.

How comforting! /s
“Fire Lugar” signs have been replaced by “Give Obama his freedom! Send him home!”

Lugar has regained an iota of respect from me - that’s an infinite increase over zero.

I reckon his true unscripted answer was “Yeah, I guess...kinda-sorta...ish...”

Liberal Republican Sen. Jacob Javits lost the 1980 primary in New York to Al DAmato and continued to campaign in the fall as the candidate of the states Liberal Party. Let's not forget to cite Mur-cow-sky.

Actually, Javits did D'Amato a HUGE favor by doing that, as he easily took more votes from the execrable Liz Holtzman than he did from D'Amato, allowing Da Fonz to win a squeaker in a three-way race.
