agree on the gas. 1k for food, though? I was mad when my family went above 500 a month. I mean, i don’t know your menu but that seems a bit much.

She probably isn’t separating food from all the other things one buys at the grocery store; soap, tooth paste, etc.

The significance is not in her level of spending for food. it is in the increase of spending for the diet to which she is accustomed. That translates to my food bill inexorably rising with smaller numbers but it is significant to everyone.
