Doesn’t a mute button prevent outgoing talk - not incoming talk? Does the function of the mute button on conference call devices differ from the one on my plain old telephone?

Ms.Pelosi, then, by pushing the mute button would have merely prevented talk/noise within the area she was within from going out on the teleline connection.

Am I wrong?

No, you are correct. Pelosi muted so she could fart without the others hearing it.

I think the point is they muted him so they could ignore him and continue with their meeting without him knowing he was being ignored.
