Iran could launch a pre-emptive strike if Israel prepares to attack it, a senior Revolutionary Guards commander told broadcaster Al-Alam on Sunday, a day after his boss warned that conflict was inevitable.
Should Israel and Iran engage militarily, "nothing is predictable... and it will turn into World War III," Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh told Iran's Arabic-language television network.
Hajizadeh, who is in charge of Revolutionary Guards missile systems, said: "In circumstances in which they (the Israelis) have prepared everything for an attack, it is possible that we will make a pre-emptive attack. But we do not see this at the moment."
He added that Iran would deem any Israeli strike to be conducted with US authorisation, so "whether the Zionist regime attacks with or without US knowledge, then we will definitely attack US bases in Bahrain, Qatar and Afghanistan."
He warned that Israel "cannot imagine our response -- and it will sustain heavy damage and that will be a prelude to its obliteration."

Iran has never been so bold. It’s as is if we woke up to find ourselves in the second cold war. History is repeating itself. This war will be us fighting Russia. It appears the attack in Libya gave Obama a great excuse to move our troops into WWIII. All this and he still somehow manages to keep his liberal base. Hmmm. Odd to say the least. Everybody should do a little research on the second cold war.
I’ve seen frightening what-if videos of a nuclear attack on Israel. Israel knows it must attack Iran, before Iran uses a nuclear bomb on Israel. Not a question of if, but when to attack Iran. Israel knows time is running short, lest their tiny population and country suffers from a nuclear strike. Better to be pre-emptive, than to dig out from a horrible nuclear attack on their civilian population. No one outside Israel can truly know the fear their people have of a potential nuclear strike from Iran. Especially when Iran boasts they will utterly destroy Israel. Israel is a tiger backed into a corner and will pounce to survive.

This is weird, unless the statement was for home consumption only (but then the guy forgot about the whole global media landscape). It is weird because a lot of people have said that Israel's window of opportunity is only a few months wide, and given a win for Obama (God forbid) it may now only be some 40 days wide.
What this general does, is that he basically tells the Israelis that their opportunity is now. If they attack before the election, and Iran attaks US bases, there is no possibilty for Zero's administration to do anything but retaliate. However, post-election Zero will have much more "freedom of action" as he has said himself.
As long as that sack of crap in the White House is there Israel is going to be on her own.I don’t expect Obama to allow the DOD to replace or replenish war material like we did during the 1970’s.
He would not so much as even raise the DEFCON level like Richard Nixon did to send a message to those who planned on assisting the Arab countries who launch the attack.
They live in fear. Nobody that stands with the United States should live in fear but they do. What message are we sending if we don’t defend Israel? The wrong one. Whether its our allies or our Embassies; we are being attacked. There will be no winner. This war will happen if something or someone doesn’t do something big. We need a leader. Obamas failed policies brought us to the brink.
We lost almost 100,000 KIA in WW III. It wasn’t cold.
Too much appeasement all around from our "leaders". They ignore the lessons of history. Future historians speaking of WWIII will say as much. There is too much pent-up hostility in the world that cannot be defused by any likely "leaders" that will take power. The way I see it, Israel has to pull the trigger on a pre-emptive attack, because no one else (including the USA) cares about the imminent destruction to be waged against Israel. If my children were about to be attacked and the police failed to stop the advances and threats of an attacker, I would certainly shoot the attackers. Better to go down fighting than to do nothing as your children are attacked.

I just can’t explain but I feel like Iran is pulling us there. There is something more going on. Their threats are way too bold. Iran has never touched Israel because of us. Why now? Why are they almost daring us to do something? Could it be Russia and China having Iran make their threats? Dunno, just doesn’t sound like Iran. It’s too late to have this discussion after the first missle is launched.
I agree, I too would shoot to kill to protect my family. This just isn’t the answer. Don’t get me wrong, I stand with Israel but it just seems like the enemies are using Israel to reel us in. I think something or someone wants us there for other reasons.
And what would a nuclear bomb going off in Jerusalem cause?
Let me guess: a stern letter to be drafted at the U.N., right?
If Iran or Egypt ever act on their dream the consequences for these regimes would ruin their whole day.
