WASHINGTON (Reuters)- For those who believe in a clash of civilizations between the Islamic world and Western democracy, the last few weeks must seem like final confirmation of their theory.

Even those who reject the term as loaded and simplistic speak sadly of a perhaps catastrophic failure of understanding between Americans in particular and many Muslims.

The outrage and violence over a crude film ridiculing the Prophet Mohammad points to a chasm between Western free speech and individualism and the sensitivities of some Muslims over what they see as a campaign of humiliation.

There seems no shortage of forces on both sides to fan the flames. The tumult over the video had not even subsided when a French magazine this week printed a new cartoon showing the prophet naked.

You just know this is going to conveniently explode sometime before the election. This mess is positively chock full of suspicious false-flag-type events sprinkled all over the ME. Seems to me that desperate attempts are being made to ignite it.

Islam is an assault on reason, reality, objectivity, nature of man as a rational being, life proper to a rational being, modern civilization, and natural rights. Anything as evil, as savage, and as barbaric as Islam has not earned and does not deserve respect, acceptance, toleration, equality, freedom, moral equivalency, non-discrimination, or appeasement by America, the West, other rational civilized nations, or any other religion.

Correct. Muslims have invaded (or attempted to invade) Europe many times. They still have majorities or pluralities in some European countries (e.g., Albania and Bosnia).

Jefferson was speaking as a government official to another government official. His personal economy was irrelevant. The US Government he was representing btw never took slaves as Tripoli was doing/

In France, Jefferson asked Tripoli’s ambassador what right Tripoli had to extort money and take slaves. According to Jefferson, the ambassador answered that such a right was founded on the Laws of the Prophet: that it was written in the Koran that

that all nations who did not recognize their authority were sinners;

And indeed He has revealed to you in the Book that when you hear Allah's communications disbelieved in and mocked at do not sit with them until they enter into some other discourse; surely then you would be like them; surely Allah will gather together the hypocrites and the unbelievers all in hell. that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found;

and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners;

So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. (Koran [47.4])

and that every Muslim slain in battle was sure to go to heaven.

They ask you concerning the sacred month about fighting in it. Say: Fighting in it is a grave matter, and hindering (men) from Allah's way and denying Him, and (hindering men from) the Sacred Mosque and turning its people out of it, are still graver with Allah, and persecution is graver than slaughter; and they will not cease fighting with you until they turn you back from your religion, if they can; and whoever of you turns back from his religion, then he dies while an unbeliever-- these it is whose works shall go for nothing in this world and the hereafter, and they are the inmates of the fire; therein they shall abide. (Koran [2.217])
