Given that they name the officer who shot the double-amputee but not the one who was ‘trapped’ by the double-amputee, I’m betting that the unnamed officer was a woman.

This should help the staff of the group home, keep the patients in line.

Shut your mouth or we will call the police, remember what happened to Brian.

Christ! it is a good thing these ‘Houston Deputies’ were in possession of fire arms. They would not be able to survive out on their own otherwise. They would be at the mercy of every elementary school aged girls that wanted to pick on them. They would have to be kept in their respective homes and carefully protected by anyone else with a little cojones and backbone.

The officer could not get away from a guy in a wheelchair, armed only with a pen? cornered? feared for his life? What?was he screaming like a little girl.

take foot, place on wheelchair and push. Chair fall over or rolls away. Situation resolved without loss of life.

This sounds to me to be an extreme case of cowardise or he really wanted to kill someone, anyone.

The cop knew that a pen is mightier than a sword. Or he feared to be run over by the wheelchair.

It’s a dangerous world.

Unclear, but seems to suggest the cornered “officer” was a “he”.

cigarette and a soda ......

Just give him the damned cigarette and a soda for God's sake. This is just pure meanness by the caretaker.

He trapped one of the officers in the corner???? WHAT?

Now he's dead, just because he only wanted a damned cigarette and a soda? How hard is it to satisfy that wee little desire?

The cop will be defended by the chief and his union. Unbelievable how far this country’s police forces have fallen over the last couple of decades.

As I said on another forum:
The ideal of the Texas Ranger is dead. Todays badge carrying pansies keep sayng “The most important thing is to go home at the end of your shift”; right before they tase an eighty year old bedridden granny.

These stories don’t attract as many cop groupie apologists as they used to. Occasionally one will pop up, but not like a few years ago.

“I tried to just wound him in the arm but he didn't have an arm there so I tried to wound in the leg but he didn't have have a leg there so I had to kill him. You understand, don't you? Well, don't you?”

What next? shooting someone who is unconscious because they snore aggressively?

I’d like to hear the other side of the story. How out of control was the mentally ill schizophrenic? Was the officer pinned against the wall by the wheelchair? I don’t know - there is more story here, yet, and I am waiting to see.

If two policemen cannot subdue a person like this in this type of situation then they don't need to be on the police force. Don't these people carry Teasers for something like this? Or could not a nurse have gotten a syringe of knock out medicine and given it to him in the neck?
Surely there was a better way.

What a brave, brave man who blew away a dangerous homicidal maniac who was wielding a .45 caliber ball point pen. Give that man a medal for valor, a raise, and a lifetime pension. He’s a credit to his union.

Any police officer sent on a call is empowered to shoot one or more living mammals. it is in their training and rules. If there is a dog present then the dog must be shot and shooting a person besides might invite a raised eyebrow at headquarters. This keeps the officers in practice for when the orders come down to confiscate all civilian owned weaponry and arrest all enemies of the state by name or by category.
