Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, in Holland campaigning for Pete Hoekstras Senate bid Tuesday afternoon, said Michigan is key for Mitt Romney's chances.

Santorum called Michigan a potential decider.
If Mitt Romney wins Michigan, hes going to be president of the United States, Santorum said.
The two talked about national security, the Senate race and Hoekstras opponent, Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
Debbie Stabenows taking up space, Santorum said, later pointing to the lack of a budget proposal from the Senate Finance Committee, on which she sits.

Top of the list was national security. The U.S. has fewer allies in the Middle East today than it has for years, Hoekstra said of last weeks riots over an amateur film short denigrating Islams prophet Muhammed.
It was a wonderful teaching moment to go into the Middle East and say, This is freedom of speech. Yes, sometimes it can be ugly, but it's one of our founding principles,' Hoekstra said.
There is really no person who understands the threat of radical jihadism and the threat it is to this country better than Pete Hoekstra, Santorum said.

Why? Hoekstra is from Holland. Holland and the whole west side is pretty conservative. Why isn't he in Lansing or Detroit or Kalamazoo??

I haven’t seen a lot of Pete’s campaign on this side of the state. Washtenaw’s dem, but not everywhere on the East Side is.

Lansing and outlying Detroit areas are probably winnable. Kalamazoo is about as tough to win as Ann Arbor. The 7th district will probably go to Hoekstra.

I think this race is a lot closer than most people realize. Setting aside the outlier Detroit News poll showing a Stabenow 16 point lead, the two most recent polls before that show this is a five-six point race.

I voted for Durant in the primary but Hoekstra is a very acceptable alternative.
