Re. post #94, VJ’s Uncle Lester Dugar, first African-American senior manager for Commonwealth Edison, and Ayers ties.

“Thomas G Ayers was many things, but most importantly, he was the behind the scenes Godfather of Illinois Politics...

(snip)

“But it was during his time as CEO of Con Ed that Thomas Ayers learned to work both sides of the street, making him the go to person in Illinois, the man with the ‘power’. It all started in the early 1960’s when he helped negotiate the first labor contract between Con Ed and the 12,000 member International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers! Thomas Ayers learned then that power comes from the streets; he also learned that power came from championing the plight of the Black community that provided real power in Chicago!

Valerie’s mother, a child psychologist, helped establish the Erikson Institute, which specialized in child development and advocacy. The Erikson Institute received funding from the Woods Charitable Fund, which years later included Barack Obama and Bill Ayers as board members. The institute tapped into not only private monies but the vast pool of public dollars unleashed by LBJ’s Head Start program. Like her daughter would one day, Barbara honed the craft of locating large sums of money (public especially) for her enterprises.

Erickson Institute

The Erikson Institute is named after pioneering child educationalist Erik Erikson, an errant disciple of Sigmund Freud and coiner of the phrase “identity crisis”.

In 1950 Erikson became a cause celebre on the left after leaving the University of California rather than sign an anti-communist loyalty oath.
Erickson Institute/Ayers family connections

For many years Bowman has run the Chicago based Erikson Institute. An early Erikson board member was Chicago businessman and “liberal” activist Tom Ayers-father of Weather Underground terrorist leader and long time Barack Obama friend and colleague Bill Ayers.

Bernardine Dohrn, has also served on the Erikson board in recent years[4].

Tom Ayers served as a trustee of the Erikson Institute. The Institute distributed $46,025 in Northern Trust scholarships. At the time, the Erickson Institute Board of Trustees also included Ayers’ convicted felon daughter-in-law, Bernadine Dohrn Ayers. In addition, the Institute’s co-founder, Barbara Bowman, is the mother of close Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.

In an obvious reference to Barbara Taylor Bowman, Bill Ayers wrote on page 82 of his book, “A Kind and Just Parent”, describing his Hyde Park neighborhood:

“Just south I see the Robert Taylor Homes named for the first head of the Chicago Housing Authority, whose daughter, a neighbor and friend is president of the Erikson Institute.”
Salute to Harold Washington

On April 6, 1983, the Hyde Park Herald published an endorsement from the Hyde Park/Kenwood Citizens Committee of Democratic Party Chicago mayoral candidate Harold Washington. Signatories to the endorsement included Barbara Bowman and James Bowman.[5]
Timuel Black connection

Barbara Bowman was interviewed for Timuel Black’s “Bridges of Memory: Chicago’s First Wave of Black Migration-an Oral History”.
Meeting the President

In March 2008 the Communist Party USA ‘s Peoples Weekly World reprinted an IPS article on the prospects for children under President Obama[6].

Some are hopeful that the new administration of President Barack Obama, who appears focused on children’s welfare and education, will reverse this decline.

“It is important to remember that for the first time in a long time we have a person who gets it,” said Barbara Bowman, a consultant to the U.S. Secretary of Education, praising Obama for “(understanding) the importance of early childhood care and education.”

Barack Obama’s Saudi agent financier and adviser, Khalid Al Mansour, was also an attorney for the Weather Underground as well as quasi-terrorists Black Panthers organization.

EXCERPTS

The Weathermen strongly sympathized with the radical Black Panthers. The police killing of Panther Fred Hampton prompted the Weatherman to issue a declaration of war upon the United States government.

(snip)

The Weathermen grew out of the Revolutionary Youth Movement (RYM) faction of SDS. It took its name from the lyric “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows”, from the Bob Dylan song “Subterranean Homesick Blues”. You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows was the title of a position paper they distributed at an SDS convention in Chicago on June 18, 1969. This founding document called for a “white fighting force” to be allied with the “Black Liberation Movement” and other radical movements[5] to achieve “the destruction of US imperialism and achieve a classless world: world communism”.[6]

2 Weathermen May Surface
Washington Post, The (DC) - Monday, November 24, 1980
Author: Chicago Sun-Times
Bernardine Dohrn and William Ayers, who disappeared into the radical-left underground a decade ago, may soon come out of hiding as a result of plea bargaining being conducted here.

(snip)

Kennedy reportedly offered to surrender Dohrn and Ayers in return for assurances that probation would be sought for them after they entered guilty pleas to any outstanding charges. Kennedy was told that since Carey is leaving office Dec. 1, any decision on plea bargaining would have to come from the newly elected state’s attorney, Richard M. Daley.
