In an article for the New York Times, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and his Polish counterpart Radek Sikorski have proposed a drastic revamp of the European Union. To provide the democratic legitimacy that must accompany greater centralization they propose a directly elected president of the European Commission and endowing the European Parliament with the powers to initiate legislation and not merely block it as is the practice today. …

The centralization will not be merely economic, but will seek integration in foreign and defense policy that will no longer be hobbled by the need to achieve unanimity. Changes would now be taken by "a super-qualified majority of the EU member states". Britain was not present at the Warsaw meeting and would have never signed off on the document. Britain opposes a European army in the belief that it would either duplicate functions now being performed by NATO or would attempt to supplant NATO. …

Interesting that France is not mentioned in the article.

France is mentioned in a Daily Telegraph article on the same subject.
Germany, France and nine other of Europe's most powerful countries have called for an elected European Union president and an end to Britain's veto over defense policy in a radical blueprint mapping out the continent's future. …
This plan will never see an elected leader, nor will it ever give any legislative powers to the European Parliament. All designed to sidestep and further isolate Britain.

When they are attacked, stand back and cheer while they are being destroyed!

If my German and Norwegian ancestors are destroyed, good ridance to the scumbags!

We should abandon NATO and pull our troops out of Japan.

LONG past time to be pulling away from WW2/Cold War deployments.

We can no longer afford them.

The primary use of the European Army would be to suppress any attempt to leave the Union.

We, and they, would be far ahead with them paying us tribute for the services we render them through our military force.

The key is “47%”.
They see the day coming when the US military budget will only be politically acceptable if it is used to get our ‘bread and circuses’ (welfare) from other countries.

They’ll have to protect themselves from us then...

Protect themselves from us? They’re trying to make their people believe that right now through all sorts of bogeymen, from the CIA (they tried to make it sound like the CIA was undermining the Treaty of Lisbon vote in Ireland) to Zionists to Haliburton to Goldman Sachs on down the line. Every bit of leftist propaganda that the liberals in the USA repeat has its source in Europe.

I guess that will be one way for Brussels to enforce “austerity” on the economically weaker nations of the Union.

That’s funny.

They’ve never had a big enough military to withstand USSR on their own.

They’re broke, now they’re saying they’re going to what ?

Politicians over there (exactly like here) just keep spouting lies so much they start believing their own lies.

Blame America. Try to “rally” the public.

Dudes, your socialism is already economically lost.

Same as America, they can’t get people with sense nominated for office, it’s always professional politicians who keep throwing gov’t money towards the direction of votes.

If both America and Europe would just undo the nanny state things would be good. But the brainiacs just don’t want to give up.

During those wondrous Cold War years, they could rely on the USA militarily and set up their own welfare states . . . and of course wearing that military down while they slowly put their schemes into place, “Blame America” included. If they’re looking to build up a military now, they want to cause trouble.

They wanted us to be like them and what could be nore european than the Roman Empire, collecting tribute for one’s welfare masses from countries at the point of the sword ?

When we were free we were the world economy’s engine of growth, now we’re just another cancer like every other feudal socialist economy.

Not yet maybe, but it’s coming.
