Anderson Cooper admits that CNN found slain American ambassador's journal inside U.S. consulate in Libya and 'secretly' used it in reporting (full Title)
.CNN found Ambassador Christopher Stevens' personal journal on the floor at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi
Journal consisted of seven handwritten pages in a hard-bound book
Network says it notified Stevens' family at once and handed over the journal
CNN host Anderson Cooper admitted on Friday that the network had come across the late Ambassador Christopher Stevens' personal journal and used parts of it in its reporting without disclosing the source.
On Wednesday on his show Anderson Cooper 360, the journalist told Senator John McCain that 'a source familiar with Ambassador Stevens' thinking told us that in the months before his death he talked about being worried about the never-ending security threats that he was facing in Benghazi, and specifically about the rise in Islamist extremism and growing al Qaeda presence.' Cooper added that 'the source also mentioned [Stevens] being on an al Qaeda hit list.'
Two days later, Cooper acknowledged that the network had obtained Stevens' journal, and that some of the information regarding the late ambassadors thought process in the months leading to the deadly September 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was drawn from his entries.

Thanks, including comments at link
Likely they weren’t left behind, the bad guys or CNN (the other bad guys) probably have tons of intel they are not talking about.
They were probably in it before the attack. Also remember that CNN uses locals for reporting.
In his defense, maybe he was worried about details of their torrid affair. Thanks opentalk.
I agree with you, and from the very beginning.
I can’t help think that this administration set something in motion with the idea it could be used and controlled by them, but it has gotten out of control, and hopefully end up being used against them.
He’s been *flipped to the dark side*.
Anderson Cooper is like Zelig. Everywhere, having a bit part in every disgusting big world event. I for one find him creepy. Does Cooper or someone else at benefit from CNN snatching or buying the gay ambassador’s diary to make sure there wasn’t anything in it embarrassing to the deceased and/or someone at CNN or someone in the Obama administration?
Finders keepers and they are a news network.
This is really DISTURBING AS HELL.
Of course- I don’t know whether to believe CNN’s timeline either (twilight zone,eh?) but doesn’t it seem INEXCUSABLE that the consulate STILL hadn’t been secured by us FOUR DAYS after this took place? In fact- SO un-secured that a news organization (and God only knows who ELSE) could be wandering around digging through Steven’s stuff?????
WTH is going ON????
Something is SERIOUSLY AMISS here. The citizens must be given FACTUAL ANSWERS.
Did CNN notify ONLY the family?
Did CNN notify the US government?
What ELSE did CNN find, if anything and what did they do with it?
How can this HAPPEN? Not just the attack but the truly surreal aftermath, having to go to foreign news sources to get ANY sense of what happened?
This is frightening in a way I never could have imagined.
They're claiming they found it on the floor of the consulate. What likely happened was his murderers took the journal as well as anything else of intelligence value. After copying the journal they sold it to CNN for a hefty sum or in exchange for something else. CNN gave Saddam Hussein favorable coverage in exchange for access. This was a scandal when it was exposed.
It's not outside reality that the Tripoli CNN office got a call on the 8th or 9th about how if they wanted a good story, to be outside the Benghazi consulate the morning of the 11th. How often have they been willing to follow the bad guys to get a shot of them ambushing our troops?
I seem to recall at least once in Iraq or the 'Stan. Naturally, since they weren't promptly taken out and shot, they figure if they are careful, they can scoop the competition.
Hmm???? Did you read the material from the gay community re Steven’s....Anderson would know....just saying there may be reason they got there so quickly to get his “personal” items.
Yeah...I heard about that.
Meanwhile- I’m not sure about the ethics of what CNN did- but at least there is SOMETHING out there to counter the truly unhinged reaction from the MSM and the administration.
And how much did CNN pay the perps to get it?
It would be interesting to have the full texts in the journal, including whatever “personal” notes he made.
Romney needs to hit on this HARD. Holder announced he had opened an FBI investigation into the murder of Ambassador Stevens on September 13th. CNN is claiming to have found it at the crime scene two days after that (unlikely story). What is very clear though, is that CNN was on the phone with a representative from the State Department and a member of the Stevens family (or one of their representatives), and they were REQUESTING that CNN not divulge the contents of the journal. HELLOOOO?! if you are seriously invesstigating this, it should have been a Justive Department official on the phone with a court-ordered gag-order on CNN and some serious threats if they did not turn over the illegally obtained evidence IMMEDIATELY.
McLaim should also be onto this, in between his interviews with Anderson C. on the topic.
Anderson has taken more than one for the team. LOL
I feel that way, too, miss m. There’s a much bigger scandal hiding behind all this. I feel that Ambassador Stevens was targeted, maybe by his own team, because he knew too much about many liaisons.
Pillow talk.
