Roger Hedgecock, the former San Diego mayor turned conservative talk radio host, called MSNBC's Chris Matthews a liar to his face Friday evening.
This resulted in quite a heated exchange between the two on HBO's Real Time (video follows with transcript and commentary):
Former San Diego Mayor Calls Chris Matthews a Liar to His Face
CHRIS MATTHEWS: The big lie is that the people who make a lot of money were the only ones who worked hard. You go to D.C. I say this a million times, Im going to keep saying it to the people out there with a little racial problem - I say, Look, go to D.C. at 6:30 in the morning and drive around the tough neighborhoods. Everybody is waiting in line to go to the bus." You know where theyre going? Theyre not going to get a welfare check. They're going to work. Theyre going to work at 6:30 in the morning. Its packed with people filling the buses going to work. And the idea that somehow the people that don't have a lot of money are lazy, where do you get that from? Theres a lot of people like your crowd that inherited everything. They were born sliding into home, and they take credit for it. You know that Romney gets away with this stuff all the time.HEDGECOCK: Chris, Chris, calm down, man. You're just, youre lying. I mean, come on.
MATTHEWS: Its tonal.
HEDGECOCK: You guys and all this slander.
MATTHEWS: No, because I think there's a gentleman's agreement out there about covering up this racial game that your side has been playing this whole campaign about welfare
HEDGECOCK: Oh, we're racist and were
MATTHEWS: No, the advertising campaign is.
HEDGECOCK: You're just outrageously wrong, okay?
MATTHEWS: Why do you run the ads then? Why do you talk about welfare? Why does Newt talks about a food stamp president? Why do you keep going back to this old stuff again, this old dog-whistle stuff? Why do you keep doing it?
HEDGECOCK: The concern we have is just what Rana said. There has to be more social mobility. I come from a very poor background. I worked my way up and a lot of people have and were proud of it, and we don't want to see that taken away by government and handed out to programs that create more dependency, because food stamps are 72 percent more than when he took office.
Listen to Matthews pathetic response:
MATTHEWS: Barack Obama is a poster child for what America stands for. He starts from a mixed family, he grows up, his father splits, he makes it, he goes to the best schools, becomes head of the Harvard Law Review, doesnt go out and money grab, does everything right, cleanest record in the world, and you guys have a problem with this guy.
BILL MAHER: Wait, you said what a lot of Republicans say
MATTHEWS: You know something? You don't like Obama.
HEDGECOCK: I don't like his policies.
MATTHEWS: No, you dont like Obama.
HEDGECOCK: No, no, no, no, you're outrageously wrong.
MATTHEWS: Mitch McConnell was against him the first day he was in office.
HEDGECOCK: Thats wrong, its just wrong.
MATTHEWS: He said, My number one goal is to get rid of this guy.
Now watch something extraordinary as host Bill Maher - yeah, I said Bill Maher - plays the voice of reason:
MAHER: That's fake. You know what?MATTHEWS: Fake? He's repeated it.
MAHER: I didn't want to get rid of Bush the first day?
MATTHEWS: Not from the first day, no matter what he did. No deals. No honeymoon. Nothing. Get rid of the bum.
MAHER: Yes because I knew he was a nincompoop from day one.
For a change, Maher was right - not about Bush being a nincompoop but with regard to the left's decision from day one to want to get the 43rd president out of office.
This is how politics works, and people like Matthews conveniently forget it the second a Democrat wins the White House.
As an aside, this exchange took place about ten minutes after Matthews falsely claimed "unemployment was well past ten percent" when Bush left office.
Talk about your delicious instant karma.
Call him a liar to his face?
Hardly....
Because he's a smooth talking, arrogant, self righteous, whiny, and indolent rabble rouser.
I often wonder if such "conservatives" are just stage personalities. If you've ever seen a straight interview with Chris Rock or Jerry Seinfeld, the dichotomy of the monotone dullard being interviewed and the dynamic stage presence of their stand-up performance is very disconcerting.
Likewise, when I see a person of supposed conservative convictions recoiling from a liberal assault, I have to wonder if those conviction go any further than a script or TelePrompTer.
The simple bald-faced fact is that the great majority of takers in the U.S. support or vote for the Democrat Party. That’s inescapable. The takers/thieves want the Dems to steal money from the producers and give it to them. The Dems are actually starting more and more to admit as such as Obama plainly and honestly ( a rare occasion for Obama) told Joe the Plumber that he would like to redistribute i.e. steal money from the “wealthy” and give to the “poor and oppressed” i.e. takers.
Or, “I don’t like Obama because he hates America. That’s why he said he wants to fundamentally transform it into something else, and he uses anti-American code words like calling himself a “citizen of the world”.
Yes Chrissy, I wanted to get rid of Obama before he was elected, and the election didn’t change that. I don’t care for his politics or policies, and I despise him as a man. He is a fraud. He would be a fraud in any color, but since he is milk chocolate brown, my wanting to get rid of him makes me a racist. Though I am color blind, I am on the wrong side of PC and the identity politics of the aggrieved. Liberal outrage needs an enemy, even if the enemy has to be made up.
Guys like Chrissy hate it that conservatives don’t give a crap about color, and they will construe any lie and straw man argument to say we do, because their narrative sucks without that. So, Chrissy, admit that you are an alcoholic and drug addict, and that you have racist thoughts and bigotries that you are ashamed of. Admit that they are so strong you have to radicalize your political correctness to balance them out. Wash away the guilt. Yes little Chrissy, admit that you chuckled to yourself when you discovered that Governor Bill Clinton frequently used the word ni??@r, and yet he rose above it to become our first black president. That is the liberation of liberalism, and you want it.
“If youre going to go on national TV and mix it up with these 0bama apologists, you cant mince words.”
Look, if you’re going to go on national TV and mix it up with the Obama apologists you can’t come up for air. Guys like Matthews, Colmes, Beckel, Carville, et al. “win” arguments (get applause from die-hard Obamabots) because they are able to breathe out whole chapters of personal attacks without taking a breath. Most words, most cutting remarks, most character assassination attempts = victory for these guys. They are not interested in debate. They are interested in ginning up the mob.
Chris Matthews is beneath whatever the lowest thing is.
It’s impossible to speak to him, so it’s best to leave him alone, talking to himself, or his fellow travellers.
Nothing stopping a humorist from the right in putting on a similar type of program and making outrageous statements about the American left.
Be great hearing somebody call the likes of Waters or Relosi demented communist c*nts or Barney Frank a degenerate lisping fag and Joe Bidens limo a short bus.
Instead we've got the likes of Bill O'Reilly and wonder why the right is losing the propaganda war.
Chrissy is a LIAR... he lies about being a HUMAN...
Maher is despicable. He has used despicable language about conservative women, and no conservative would ever get a pass from the media for using that kind of language about leftist womyn. I agree that O’Reilly is a joke and an opportunist, but Maher gets NO respect from me. If a man called my mother the “c” word, I wouldn’t respect him for his “intellectual honesty”, I’d knock his block off with a baseball bat.
Can we get them all to take a cruise together in a leaky boat?
Like to be in on an action team dressed in sunglasses and Palestinian keffiyehs throwing Chrissy into a cargo van...
...so goes the movie script I’m contemplating writing...uh huh yep yep yep ;^)
That's what Sen. Jeffords enabled when he crossed the aisle and rallied to his Mephistophilis, Tom Daschle, who became Senate Majority Leader by Jeffords's political betrayal. Jeffords gave the 'Rats the Senate until the 2002 elections.
