Oakland’s looking more and more like Zimbabwe all the time.
Somebody had posted a story about ayear ago where the current (black) administration of a city was fighting with (white) retired municipal workers over their retirement packages; the retirees were basically consuming so much of the city’s current revenues there was little left to spend on anything else. It was a disgrace; places like that can never draw new taxpayers (individual or corporate) because they will simply be funding the retirees, rather than current services (which become non-existent). NJ is seeing this in many towns; there are limited funds available for today’s needs because of the burden of paying people who retired 20 years ago. An acquaintance just retired from the police force at 46 years old (he had finished 25 years); my town will be paying him for another 30. In 10-15 years, when there are no more Americans living in this town, our replacements will be scratching their heads wondering about this massive item in their budget. “Que es esto?”
