Be patient. We're a few weeks away, and I'll be giving a full analysis of the piece, thanks to the fact that I studied it as a 15 year old. But this week I have a work for piano six hands that includes the theme from the second movement, put on paper ten years before Sergei wrote the concerto.
Let the story unfold.

At age 14,
Sergei Rachmaninov wrote his first piece for orchestra, and its quite good. It doesnt compare to his later works for orchestra when he had a better feel for what the instruments could do, but its impressive for a teenager.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
