Senate Democrats Plan to Adjourn Without Passing Budget for Third Consecutive Year

20 Sep 2012

Democrats are set to adjourn the Senate after three years of not passing a budget and with no plans to avert a fiscal cliff. And on the 1,240th day since Senate Democrats adopted a budget, Republican leaders in the Senate on Thursday assailed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Democrats for their failures, promising to pass a budget if voters put them in the majority after November.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the ranking member on the Budget Committee, said “this nation has never faced a more difficult financial challenge” than it current “deep systemic demographic problems.”

“They need to be addressed yet today marks the 1,240th day since the Democratic Leadership in the Senate adopted a budget,” Sessions said. “For three years in a time of financial crises, the Senate’s Democratic majority has failed to comply with the United States code that requires us to bring up a budget and bring it to the floor of the United States Senate.”

How long have we heard from Harry and Nancy how the Republicans aledgedly have opposed all pending legislation ~ that Republicans are obstructionist (?)

Three years without a budget ?
How many times has abudget been submitted ?
The last budget Zero submitted , I beleive went down with NO VOTES of support , ... not even from the Democrats.

I am glad that the only financial issue which confronts the White house is ... how do I fund my re-elcetion effort /sarc

EVERY Republican candidate for a seat in the US Senate this year should be TRUMPETING the failure of the Senate to act for the third consecutive year, and base their campaign not only on their direct Democrat opponent, but picture Harry Reid as well, for that is the face they are running against.

This might work even for Todd Akin.

The kindest thing that may be said about Harry Reid is that he is a jack-Mormon. Just about every other facet of his “service” in the Senate and as a representative of the people of Nevada is far less complimentary.

We are not to excuse him because he appears “senile”. That would cover about a third of ALL Democrat Senators currently holding a seat in that august body. It is a euphemism to say that they “serve”. They serve time and their own egos, not the will of the United States citizens.

I completely agree! If the GOP doesn’t get busy with some fire brand ads educating the public about this then they don’t want to win! This is a no brainer!

The drive-by media darn sure won’t mention it and the economy is what voters care about the most!

For 200 years, the system worked. I can remember occasions in the late 70s and in the 80s....where we got down to the very end of September each year...and the Senate would come through at the last moment. I think the current behavior is such...we might as well dictate that none of the Senate members will be paid a salary after 1 October of each year, unless they have signed off on a budget. And if they haven’t settled the problem after thirty days...dismiss the Senate entirely and allow all fifty states to have a senatorial election on 2 January. That’s about the only way to get their attention and resolve this mess.
