We need to be more like France.
The French people are my role models when it comes to refusing to speak a foreign language in my own country.
All around me are Americans apologizing for not knowing a different language or dropping their tasks to scramble over and save the day to translate.
Not the French. Americans despise them for it, but they have preserved their language.
Good for them. We like to be liked too much. It’s not respectable.
When in France, I speak as much high school French as I know. And when I lived in Germany, I learned to converse in German. I love both of those countries.
At home I speak English and that’s it, unless someone says “please”.
Never thought I'd ever see that quoted here without getting the quick Zot.
