The Governor who couldnt stop himself from proposing tax hikes on Virginians says during the Fairfax debate with George Allen that hes open to a minimum federal income tax on everyone.
This would be a complete dealbreaker to the tune of a 70-30 blowout in any sane time. As our current insanity stands, Kaine will still get a minimum of 45% of the vote.
The MSM will come to his rescue
As a Virginian, this is the first issue I think I have ever agreed with Kaine on. There SHOULD be a minimum federal tax.
I know the statement will hurt him... and that is good for conservatives, but he is right. Unfortunately, Allen will demogogue it and likely win by running to the left instead of winning as a conservative. The question is whether or not this is a conservative victory because the more conservative candidate won or is it a liberal victory because the candidate won by vowing to continue the handouts for the 47%?
If he does lose over this comment, its a shame. He’s right. Every single person should pay some tax to avoid the public voting itself benefits on the backs of the rich. There are a lot of reasons for Kaine to lose. This isn’t one of them.
With that comment, he might just get 53%
I hear you.
I suspect, however, knowing Gov. Eyebrow his idea of a ‘minimum tax’ for everyone will turn out to be another tax heaped on the makers and the 47% will continue to take.
No kidding. I’ll bet Kaine wasn’t even thinking about the 47% when he made that comment, but wants to make sure that 53% are all required to pay at least 25%.
I almost wish we had some system where there was a multiplier in place between the lowest and highest effective tax rates (e.g. if the highest taxpayer pays 30% the lowest must pay 3% (10x multiplier). Raise one and the other goes up, and vice versa.
This is the other side of the coin from Romney’s 47% comments. Will the press cover it the same way as Romney’s? What happens if the 47% don’t like the idea of being taxed and he loses the election, doesn’t that validate Romney?
Unless I’m wrong he’s losing it for Obama, because a minimum tax for everyone plays right into Romney’s quote.
Excellent question
I agree with you.
He’s wandered off the reservation and it will come back and bite him in the a$$.
True dat.
Macaca Karma. LOL!
Cutting spending and opposing tax increases for any income bracket IS a conservative position.
Kaine stepped in it, serves him right. He is a vile, noxious liberal who would prop up Harry Reid's majority.
Stupid people vote for stupid people!
It would be a shame. I totally agree with him on this. Of course, I don't believe in our Marxist "progressive" income tax system.
Yup. But the more important thing I see here is that the Dems' polling must be indicating that people do see the 47% as moochers. Too bad all the attempts of their pals in the media to turn that 47% thing into some sort of Romney gaffe is backfiring on them.
Opens many, many lines of attack. Obama has promised to extend the Bush tax cuts for ONLY one year for all income brackets.
Romney needs to start making this argument, and now we have Kaine on the wrong side of an immediate tax increase for all income brackets.
