NASA's Bolden: criticism of agency’s direction ‘undermines nation’s goals at a very critical time’
Houston Chronicle ^ | September 19, 2012

Posted on 09/20/2012 2:43:37 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden dismissed rumors that the future of U.S. space exploration is in jeopardy and rejected speculation that his agency has no plans for future human spaceflight.

“Those who perpetuate that myth only hurt the space program,” Bolden told businessmen, academics and journalists Tuesday afternoon at the National Press Club.

“Such talk undermines our nation’s goals at a very critical time,” he said. “The truth is we have an ambitious series of deep space destinations we plan to explore and we are hard at work exploring the hardware and the technologies to get us there.”

....“If you look at what we do for the money that we get I think we’re doing very well,” he said. “The prospect for the future is good unless your a pessimist and you believe that the people we hire, that we elect to run the government won’t rise to the occasion and run the government. But I’m an eternal optimist.”

The future of NASA’s budget remains a question heading into potentially a new presidential administration. Bolden said he has not given much thought to the idea of a Mitt Romney White House, saying that he “loves” and “admires” President Barack Obama, who in 2009 chose Bolden to be NASA’s 12th administrator.

....He also expressed support for private flights and privately owned space stations for tourist purposes.

“Commercial space is not a national priority, it is an imperative,” he said. “NASA can’t go to the exploration that we want to do if we don’t have a viable, sustainable commercial space program with US capability to get humans into orbit.”

Took the words right out of my mouth, or is that fingertips. An entire administration of liars, that’s all we have been reduced to because a fawning media and a majority of stupid people refused to see the wring on the wall.

Loads of Blacks don’t believe that we really landed on the moon anyway. They think it was all TV studio stuff. The screws given to NASA under O-hole should be seen in that light.

There was too much American exceptionalism going on — time to make the big push to de-develop America (This has been Obama’s Science and Technology and policy adviser’s life struggle [John P. Holdren] - diminish the United States in order to raise up those who struggle).

NASA is now so over and done. It ought to be converted to Smithsonian II Wing. So damned sad.

NASA is not dead and many Patriots there are working to preserve and defend for future use, much of what obama has ordered destroyed.

The amazing thing to me - living here in central Florida - is that the GOPe and their hand-picked candidates (Romney nationally, Connie Mack state) are not all over the fact that Obama has destroyed the US manned space program. In spite of the national security and technological/scientific implications, abandonment of manned space flight for the new reality of hitching rides in Russian space flights plus bucking up the collective insecurities and hurt feelings of the Muslim (yes, those folks again!) world, Obama’s policies (and those of his acolyte Democratic congress/Senate critters) have vitiated the Florida Space Coast region. There has been an immense brain drain from the KSC area and these engineers, scientists, mission technical people have left the region altogether.

I recall very distinctly Obama and Sen. Bill Nelson (his water carrier here in Florida) addressing the Space Coast directly in the ‘08 campaign and promising they would continue and even expand US manned space program. With their claims now shown to be bold-faced lies, you would think our side would be all over this - with speeches in the Space Coast and ads in our state - especially given the importance of Florida in the upcoming election. However, we’ve heard not a peep from our candidates (remember, these were the ones “best able to beat Obama”) either nationally or state-wide. The only Romney ads we see here in Florida are the convention speech snippet ads that are running in several states and the China manufacturing ads. Not a word about the Space Program that truly defined the US for the last 50 years. Not a word about the bold-faced lies that Obama and Nelson told last time around. Not a word about the local effects of Obama policies (backed by Nelson) on the residents of a large swath of electorally critical Florida.

Glad to see that the wise folks who gave us the sterling national campaigns of Ford, Dole, GHWB, and McCain are all over this space issue!!

Bolden is an effing jerk. Our speech is hurting the space program?
