Chances are that they have indeed been genetically modified through selection and hybridization over hundreds of years.
Come to remember, you’re right. Thanks. Tomatoes probably come from a tiny fruit that was originally slightly toxic. Not the most nutritious garden item, either. I will probably plant some fairly old, small, tough, short-season ones, though, because people like to eat tomatoes (cold climate here).
