CBS POLL: GOP HAS HUGE TURNOUT EDGE OVER DEMS

Mike Flynn

One of the chief reasons the media is so mistaken in their zeal to proclaim Obama the election winner is that most of the polls they're basing their predictions on are wildly inflating Democrat turnout. The overwhelming majority of media polls are assuming an electorate that is at least as Democrat as the one in 2008, with many polls assuming a higher Democrat turnout. This is just daft. The latest CBS poll of 3 swing states is the most recent to show that GOP has a huge turnout advantage over Democrats.

.......

Yesterday, CBS/NYT released its latest Quinnipiac poll of Colorado, Virginia and Wisconsin. With the exception of CO, the polls had heavy Democrat skews, so the head-to-head match-ups aren't particularly informative. What was telling though was the differences in enthusiasm between the two parties.

In all three states, a majority of Republicans say they are more enthusiastic about voting this year, compared to about a third of Democrats who are. In Colorado and Virginia, GOP voters are more enthusiastic than Democrats by a 15 point margin. In Wisconsin, GOP enthusiasm outpaces Democrats by 16 points.

Particularly interesting is that GOP voters have become more enthusiastic about voting in the past month.

We’re not enthusiastic about voting. I’d say we’re just more cognizant that our very survival is at stake.

Yes you're right henkster - it's something subtle like that...

What states do early voting two months before the election?

Some will start sending mail ballots in a few weeks, but that’s not early voting.

“Wrong track” doesn’t come close to how I feel about things in this country right now.

I hear you; it was already becoming more difficult for a “white guy” to get an education, job, or promotion before this politically correct token disaster struck, and it is only getting worse. The backbone of the middle class has been broken, and is is wreaking demographic havoc as taxpaying Americans stop marrying or breeding. The projections of what this country will look like in 2050 are coming to fruition 35 years earlier; more and more of this country resembles the Third World every day.

Incumbent presidents usually win reelection because voters basically give them the benefit of the doubt to try again.

Post-Nixon, Ford, Carter and Bush lost reelection while Reagan, Clinton and Bush Jr. won reelection. Ford might not be fair to count. But, still, in the modern era, there seems to be about a 50/50 chance of an incumbent winning reelection. I'm really not sure comparing much further back than that is valid. The presidency and how the public views it has changed SO MUCH since the Nixon era.

What seems more true to me is that the most charismatic candidate wins presidential elections every time. That remains why I fear for Romney's chances against Obama, the difference in how they poll on likability.

The debates are where people really make that judgment. Which is why I think discussing polls or anything else before the debates is pretty much meaningless pontificating. If the debates are a draw, then everything up until then might matter more. But if there's a clear winner in the debates, it'll basically cancel out everything that's happened up until then. I think a candidate under 50% can go above 50% easily almost overnight if they win the debate.

A no-brainer. Even though I didn't vote for Gov Romney in the primary I'm definately choosing the Mormon over the MORON!

I think Romney will win, and it could be a larger margin than many think
Think Reagan back in 1980.

I have very fond memories. I was a member of the Young Republicans of Spring Valley, NY a heavily Dem suburb of NYC. My dear old Dad was a committeman. The night before the election we set up a "goon squad" with me spending all night tearing up the streets of Rockland County in my 68 Charger loaded with Reagan posters and a staple gun, plastering them all over the place. We even had a bunch with Reagan's name printed in Hebrew to post in the Hasidic parts of Monsey and New Square. I consider it a sense of pride that I did my part to help convince some of some of my Jewish bretheren that it's OK to leave the dem plantation.

That’s a wonderful memory to have, and to think, NY voted Red that year, too!

We shall never have another like Reagan.
