The last remaining full-body X-ray airport scanners are to be scrapped within weeks.
The security systems, which have been tested at air terminals since 2009, scan through passengers’ clothes, creating a detailed ghost-like image of the naked body. The scan is then viewed by security staff.
Critics said the machines invaded passengers’ privacy and the radiation they generate raised the risk of cancer. Some Muslim groups also refused to walk through them on religious grounds.
...The report from the EC's Committee in May said radiation doses were 'very low' compared with other sources such as cosmic radiation received during flights. But it did add that the long-term effects, such as cancer risks, could not be 'entirely excluded'.
American academic Dr David Brenner said he believed the scanner could deliver up to 20 times more radiation to the skin than previously thought -potentially increasing the risk of skin cancer. Fears were also raised that the scanners were an invasion of privacy and some passengers and religious groups had questioned their use.

Now, it appears Europe is poised to take that role, and America will steadfastly refuse to follow.

Both times I have “opted out” they failed to put me through the metal detector, relying only on the pat-down. One could easily carry metal gun or knife parts that way.
They have been also pushed back to GMO food.
And the ones in use at US airports will be removed when... waiting....... still waiting .............STILL WAITING.

I would so love to see an entire week in which airline passengers would opt out in large numbers, simply to gum up the works as much as possible. These machines need to go - the Israelis don’t use them and don’t need to do so, because they actually use their brains in designing a system to stop terrorists from boarding aircraft (and it WORKS). I am positive that we’re capable of the same, and that therefore the reason we have these machines and the associated pat-downs for those that opt out is for conditioning.
Here the scanner issue was dead until they pulled that stunt. They got what they wanted after that.

Remember Obama was vacationing in Hawaii, acted like no big deal. DHS will probably buy up their inventory and ship here for malls , stadiums, train stations stations....
