The mandate from on high came down for even special ed kids to take the SOL. We have a severely CP kid at my kid’s school. They wanted the CP kid to take the SOL. The aide had to tell the test person “He can’t even write or say his name”. They had no idea what to do. They were used to dealing with inner city kids who were just either dumb or lazy.
If “they” had “no idea what to do” then they are derelict in their jobs

for diagnosed disabled kids on IEPs to take SOL’s and other assessments, such as extra time to complete, special implements and special paper, lighting, noise control, sensory tools to squeeze and manipulate, etc, typing and word processing devices, verbal testing, etc etc
One I will request when my autistic son goes back into school (now homeschooling) is my presence near him when he is testing, to reduce his anxiety
