LAHORE: The US has closed its embassy and consulates in Pakistan to general public for indefinite period.
Amid anti-film protests US Tuesday halted public dealing in all its diplomatic missions in Pakistan.
According to statement issued by US embassy in Islamabad, all diplomatic missions in the country would be closed for public as security concerns.
Meanwhile, US diplomatic personnel were shifted to unclosed location from Karachi consulate as angry protesters advancing to the diplomatic building in red zone of the largest and port city of Pakistan.
Clashes between police and mob continued as protesters trying to reach consulate building. Police using tear gas, firing in air and water guns to stop people.
Following the violent protests across Pakistan against anti-Islam film, the security has been tightened by the authorities in Peshawar.
Fearing the security risk and creating traffic problems, the authorities have blocked a road towards the US consulate as the protests are continued in the city against the release of anti-Islam film.
The heavy contingent of police have been placed out on entry and exit points of the consulate while the police are also alert in other parts of the city.
US consulate in Lahore was also vacated by US officials who have been shifted to other safe places, local media reports said.
Authorities have blocked all roadsgoing towards US diplomatic building in Lahore.

So far first Bush lost Turkey. Obama has lost Egypt, Libya, Iraq and now Afghanistan and Pakistan. Our foreign aid should only go to secularizing ME states. It would be better spent making micro loans directly.

ISLAMABAD - A spokesman for US Embassy has said that the security situation in Pakistan is being watched continuously.
He also said that public dealings remained suspended at US Embassy in Islamabad and consulates in Karachi and Lahore. Referring to the anti-Islam film the spokesman said that the US rejects the film and its material totally and that the US government has nothing to do with the film.
Anti-US protests following the release of a blasphemous movie has been continue across Pakistan. The protests turn violent as in Peshawar and Karachi, the US Consulates came under attack by the mob.

QUESTION: There were also demonstrations in Pakistan. Do you have any update what’s going on now?
MS. NULAND: I do have a little bit of a situation report there for our – it was Pakistan you asked about, Goyal?
QUESTION: Yes, ma’am.
MS. NULAND: Yeah. So all of our personnel in Pakistan are safe and accounted for. We did have protests that were relatively widespread around the country today. However, most of them have been dispersed peacefully. We are obviously continuing to monitor the situation closely. My understanding is that our missions were open today.

I can’t disagree with you in the main, but remember that many of the “protests” including among the festivities, burning 0bastard in effigy. They are irritated that “he killed” bin Laden.

PESHAWAR: Activists of political and religious parties protested outside the US consulate in Peshawar against the anti-Islam film released in the US, Express News reported on Tuesday. The protesters were trying to reach the consulate.
A peaceful protest turned violent, as the police retaliated against the protesters by firing tear-gas shells, aerial firing and baton charge to disperse the large crowd.
Activists were adamant on entering the consulate building via the central gate and burn the American flag there.
According to initial reports, a few protestors were also armed and had fired at the police.

Regarding the staffers present in the consulate, according to sources most of them had been shifted to Islamabad citing security reasons, however a few local staffers, related to technical jobs, and consulate security personnel were still present in the consulate.
I’d hate to be a grammar/geography nazi, but that is the proper way to pronounce it. Iraq is “E-rock” not “I-rack”. Iran is “E-ron” not “I-ran”. I think our public school teachers are either lazy or ignorant and never teach the proper names of countries in geography classes.

Plums were small greengage plums from a neighbor. We pick ‘em, cook ‘em, and give her some jars of whatever I make, usually a sort of spicy plum conserve/chutney. But my touch was off this year, so made 2 batches of conserve and one of regular jam; the regular jars of plums have not been popular... even though I add dried orange peel! Also made apple/plum juice.
If we had a conservative government, India would be very benefitted and maybe the commie Congress Party would lose popularity. They’re always strugging with communist influence, as well as muzlim, China at one end, Pakistan at the other. And horrible corruption, but probably not any worse than here. Just prettied up more here.

Contrast his exacting care in pronouncing Pakistan with his inexcusable mispronunciation of corpsman as "corpse-man". He was referring to a navy corpsman, and said "corpse-man" twice in the same speech.
The mispronunciation of "Navy corpsman" is especially inexcusable since there are plenty of videos from the 2008 primary and election run when he correctly pronounced "press corps" as press core. I always try to link the two in posts to underscore his deliberate usage. It wasn't a gaffe any more than the constant middle finger face rub during the debates and in campaign speeches. Consider using both to strengthen the point.

Don’t get all upset, Jeremiah. You were a great prophet in the Bible. Look at it this way. More and more Americans are now realizing just who BO wanted to make America friends with. These are all the people BO was bowing to and making nice with. Now we can see their real colors displayed in the open and it is not pretty. Very naive on BO’s part to think he could make friends with these terrorists.

However, for years we in America have pronounced Pakistan, “Pack-is-tan.”
It wasn’t until a few years back listening to Monsour somebody or somebody Monsour, on FOX, (whatever became of him - - )? did we hear ‘Pock-is-tahn, tohn,’ whatever.
However other countries’ names are pronounced by their citizens, we speak/pronounciate AMERICAN.
