I remember there was such a shortage of workers, they were hiring seniors back from retirement.

"I remember there was such a shortage of workers, they were hiring seniors back from retirement."

If they haven't already, they're likely to hire seniors back from retirement for part time work again, thanks to the full-time employee cost of Obamacare. There is still a shortage of skilled, experienced workers available at a reasonable cost.

The job outlook for 20-somethings living in mom's basement is less positive.

Absolutely right.

In those days, when I went to the grocery store, there was a white haired greeter at the door.

Now when I go to the grocery store, there are elderly people hanging around the entrance offering to take people who planned to take their groceries on the bus, a ride home for 2 or 3 dollars.

I regularly see spot jobs and casual labor being offered on Craigslist where the pay offered for the work on completion, amounts to significantly less than the legal minimum wage when you gauge the time required to complete. Often I see replies posted to these ads, that say something to the effect of “Re: Are you out of your mind?”... and yet, by the end of the day, those jobs are all gone, snapped up.

I thank God that I have a small biz that lets me eke by, but if I see a moving job on craigslist, I grab it... I have a gift for lifting heavy objects that often gets me tips at the end of the day... I look at it as getting paid to go to the gym ;^)

They had already been sucked up out of the job market and hired by the time we needed to fill our job slot.

Now, official unemployment is around 11% and unofficial unemployment number is way higher.

These high unemployment numbers don't really tell the whole story though because they don't count the out flux of the huge number of people who have simply picked up stakes and moved out of state because they can't find work.

Anybody remember the term that the Dems coined “underemployment”? The unemployment figures in my state were so low that we officially had a labor shortage and could not find qualified people to fill positions. The Dems said “Sure unemployment is low, but these people don’t have good jobs.” Well, I’m sure some of them would like just about ANY job right about now!
