So if she is living off of SS checks, she is getting every dime she paid in, that was then spent by the government on other stuff, and therefore being paid back with money from younger worker’s checks, which we will never see.

Romney was not talking about her, nor demanding she pay more taxes.

Nice try, though.

Huh?
Romney did not advocate raising taxes on anyone.

Romney is making he honest case that the bill payers and tax payers are who he wants to represent, not the takers.

Actually, yes. Your 84year old mother should.

In my opinion, EVERYONE should be paying taxes to some extent.

The problem we have today is only 53% pay for 100%. The 47% not paying anything have no idea how much stuff costs and keep thinking stuff is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

It’s not FREE. Everyone should have some skin in the game and I mean EVERYONE. In the case of your mother, I would say she should have to pay $500 total. Very small number, but symbolic enough that she and everyone else understands that this stuff costs money. It may not seem fair, but this is a simple numbers game.

Right now we’re down to 16 employed American for every one receiving disability. Years ago that number was 65. We cannot have a society in which the few are paying for all. It will implode on itself. I realize $500 of $17,000 is a lot to some (2.9%), but it is important that people (especially those not paying) understand how much waste there is and how much stuff costs.

If a person pays for something and sees the waste, they get mad. If a person isn’t paying for something, the waste is ignored as someone else’s problem.
