Romney Slams Obama Backers As Dependent On Government, Tax Dodgers
By Seema Mehta September 17, 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney, speaking to donors at a closed-door fundraiser this year, said that supporters of President Obama failed to take personal responsibility for their lives, relied on government for their needs and paid no income tax.
“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care of them, who believe that they are entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you name it,” Romney said in a videotaped speech to donors that was given to the news organization Mother Jones, which posted it online Monday.
“That's an entitlement," Romney said. "And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. … These are people who pay no income tax.”
In the remarks, Romney said he had no hope of swaying those people to his side and would instead focus on unaligned voters.
"[M]y job is not to worry about those people,” Romney said, referring to Obama supporters. “I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
The Obama campaign immediately lashed out at Romney, saying that he had effectively written off half the population.

Tax Dodgers??? the last time the IRS released information 47% of wage earners in this nation had in fact paid no federal income tax- my belief is that number could be higher as there’s been no data revealed since 2009....the criminal liberal media can paint it anyway they want to but its the truth...

I dunno. Writing off half the electorate doesn't seem like a smart move politically, which is why he did it behind closed doors. I don't see this as anything but a huge negative for Romney.

I think this is where the challenge is for Romney - to maintain confident approach despite the hysterical reaction from the media, who want so badly for Obama to be reelected. He needs to state that he said what he meant and meant what he said, and the press can go screw themselves.
I think there will be nothing but a media $hitstorm right up to the evening of November 6th, and their heads will completely explode when Romney/Ryan comes out on top by 3-4%. I will be monitoring the polls in Palm Beach County, which means I will not get in front of the telly before 10:30 pm, and I will enjoy nothing more than seeing Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, et. al. with tortured looks as their exit polling shows them nothing but bad news.

But for him to say everyone not paying taxes is a group that he will ignore is absurd and as much a gaffe as the Joe the Plumber quote from oblunder in 2008.
Problem is there are a lot of liberal elite who are part of the tax paying 50%. He should not be saying anything to write off voters in an election this close.

Look, folks, these “Obama Stash” deadbeats will get their just due if Obama prevails. They are signing their own economic death warrant. The USA, under Obama will soon go bankrupt, and....there will be no “Obama stash” for anyone. then the USA will become like sub-Sahara Africa where no one can ever escape from being poor and starving. bottom line: “There is no such thing as a free lunch, period”!!!
Mitt Romney is right on the money and he deserves our dedicated support, for it is not the Romney election that is paramount, it is the salvation of these United States of America that is at stake. “Anybody but Obama”!!!
