The Ambassador served as the deputy chief of mission in Libya from 2007 to 2009.
He was the American representative to the Transitional National Council in Benghazi during the revolution in Libya.
Benghazi was the capital of rebel-held Libya during the uprising to oust Qaddafi. This is the same that was attacked June 6th, too.

If no FBI is over in Libya and it is too dangerous—who told our gov’t what papers were missing from the consulate? Why wasn’t Stevens at the safe house with the others? Why is it that only Stevens was drug around by the mob?
I suspect Stevens was a Spook.
Actually, he was previously stationed in Libya during the Bush administration. He spoke Arabic and spent most of his career in the Middle East and North Africa.
