National polling suggests that the American public is deeply divided about whom it wants to be the next president of the United States...
But if likely voters are almost evenly split on who should occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in January, they are far less indecisive on who they think will be the next president.
Nearly six in 10 (59 percent) registered voters in a Post-ABC poll in late August said they thought Obama would win while just 34 percent chose Romney, even as the head-to-head vote in that poll stood at 47 percent for Romney and 46 percent for Obama among registered voters.

It is my belief that we are also slipping into a 2nd recession that wont be reported until after the election.
My business is very sensitive to future economic conditions, and it just dropped off a cliff.
I saw that guy too. He’s actually 40. That’s what liberalism does to ya.
Join the club.
4 more years of this hell is unthinkable.
But Many are afraid the "freebies" will stop!
Back in 2008 Chris Matthews used to repeat a theory over and over again that I havent heard him say this year. That theory is that many voters are scared to tell polsters that they will vote for Obama because he is black, even if they dont plan on voting for him.
Romney’s main theme has been “Obama is a nice guy but things just havent worked out”, with some exceptions. The libs still complain about his campaign being dirty so I am not sure what it is buying him.
Obama on the other hand Obama has been destroying Romney’s character and person from day ONE.
Now maybe recent events will change the campaigns.
All candidates, no matter when, say ridicuous things...yet none of them can explain how they will actually do them.
I hope Mitt wins just to see what he does. I really have no expectations for any real results.
Propaganda works, that’s why you see so much of it.
If Republicans just get to the polls on election day the same way we did in 2010, then we will have the same tidal wave result in our favor.
These crap lame-stream polls are using 2008 party weighting and over-sampling Dems. Just don’t believe lame-stream polls. Don’t get down-hearted. Show up on election day and vote.
Exactly. It's 1984. (Orwell's 1984, not Reagan's)
As long as people like Chris Cillizza are writing the history in newspeak....
“Nobody could want four more years of this.”
I wish that were true, but I can name SEVERAL who do. I have a few very liberal friends/family and I see all their friends on Facebook. They will not be voting for Romney (the rich idiot 1%er, liar and income tax cheat) no matter what they think of Obama. And all of these folks are in Oklahoma and Texas, too. :-(
By the same token - I also know of MORE people who don’t. This includes my personal friends, my other FB friends/acquaintances and all of the people here.
We just have to hope that we outnumber them.
Ya got that right.
Romney has wanted this opportunity for the past 5-6 years (or more). I think that he'll fight for it.
McCain was running because it was his turn. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure that he wanted the job.
Not the normal ones.
Something needs to change. I’m falling asleep. Romney needs to attack.
Still say 1980 because of the poor economy and the Middle East on fire, just like Iran was.
The MSM is lying, and covering up like never before. Romney has to attack just to get any coverage. Reagan attacked, and even though the media went after him, the truth got through to the people.
“It is like living in Wonderland”
I don’t believe a single poll that is out there; here in NJ there were plenty of Obama stickers four years ago, now they are few & far between.
“We just have to hope that we outnumber them.”
Most people I know that are better off than four years ago are public school teachers (ones who survived the layoffs); there are not enough of them to re-elect him. The blacks I know are hurting like whites are.
0bama will win. Easily. Romney is running a horrific campaign is handing the election to 0bama on a silver platter.
“With Gingrich we may have had a chance”
Gingrich would have been a larger disaster. 60% of this country hates him. Romney had a shot, but he is blowing it.
