If you look at the picture in post 86 and the middle picture in post 161 it looks like the same pose with rigor mortis showing in the bent left arm.

Not sure how long rigor mortis takes, but it could be as little as 2-3 hours.

You are right, we may never know. I think with what has been shown, it is likely he was abused, but probably post-mortem. How he died isn't obvious.

I’m on the side the video/pictures are showing the locals trying to help Ambassador Stevens.

The video is taken of the dead ambassador hours after the consulate was attacked. Mr. Stevens died of smoke inhalation and heat from the fires causing the redness in his skin. Heat accelerates rigor mortis, notice his stiff left arm in both photos. Maybe Ambassador Stevens had loosened his own belt when he was trying to breathe in the smoke.

The evil mf’ers had long left to attack the safe house. Once the compound quit burning the locals found his body. This would account for the many hours Ambassador Stevens was missing.
