I was thinking maybe it was lividity/pooling of the blood. It won’t become fixed for some hours. The bright redness does go along with smoke inhalation, I think.
I think he was at least unconscious when drug out of the bldg.
I wonder how far the hospital was from the consulate? Do they have ambulances? I thought they did as last year Gadaffi was said to be in an ambulance but the world saw that he wasn’t and what happened.
Why didn’t they phone an ambulance for Stevens...IF they were only wanting to take him to the hospital? This whole mess stinks to high heavens.

There is a hospital in very close proximity to the Consulate. The “safe house”, I couldn’t find on the street map.
Consulate at Fourth Ring Road and in between Shari Al Andulus and the other main road to the East Shari something.
Hospitals from there, a mile or so.
