I will always salute the late ambassador for giving his life but continue to question the wisdom of leaving him with no security and ignoring terror warnings. How dumb can the state dept. get?

Because the Ambassador was so tight with the ME and the Libyans in particular, (having helped them for years) he thought he'd be safe. The last person the alligator would eat, so to speak.

One columnist assessed that the Ambassador's usefulness had run out since the change of regimes in Libya, and he therefore became useless to them.

End of story, end of life. They're not to be trusted.

I also questioned the wisdom of posting an ambassador in that part of the world who had been rumored to be gay. True or not.

...but, but, but, they “loved him.” He didn’t need “security” which would be insulting to the Libyans singing kumbaya with him. [channeling foreign officer opinion]

How dumb? Fatally dumb!
